AOL rocks the GOP vote

No doubt this is a politically divided nation; just go to a dinner party and see what happens when some half-in-the-bag neighbor brings up health care or gay marriage or taxes — or, apparently, absurdly, email providers. If you can believe it, a new poll out today shows a major difference between Republicans and Democrats when it comes to picking their favorite email service.

It seems that Republican voters favor AOL over every other email provider, according to a survey of 1,184 registered voters by Poll Position. In fact, about 20 percent of them picked AOL as their preferred email provider, ahead of both Google (18.9 percent) and Yahoo (15.6 percent). Democrats took a completely opposite view, picking Google as their favorite (27.3 percent), followed by Yahoo (15.6 percent). And what about AOL? It didn’t fare well, with only 5 percent of Democrats picking it as the best service.

Hmmm, I have a Yahoo & a Hotmail account. Only spend about a month with AOL decades ago.

But I do wonder if we will see continued political/consumer stratification? I hared there is a Red State/Blue State website which tell you where to buy your consumer goods.
Costco? Blue State
Sam's Club? Red State
Target? Blue State
Wal-Mart? Red State
Leatherman? Blue
Starbucks? Goes back and forth, some blues say they screw poor coffee farmers but some reds say the management and ownership are too liberal.

I don't know anyone who still has an AOL account.

If you think of AOL back then as the Internet with Training Wheels, it makes perfect sense.

Do you still have to pay to use AOL? My parents pay an absurd amount for their AOL accounts - I've been trying to get them switched to Google and have finally made progress only because AOL doesn't readily support dial-up (yes, I know) and their computer died and they realized that all new computers don't easily support dial-up either..

Still, the poll results aren't statistically significant for Republicans if 20% of them chose it over 18.9% Google and the margin of error was +/- 3%. I found it interesting that the younger generation was getting back into AOL - I figured it was going the way of the dinosaurs...

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

AOL has a free service for those with broadband...but also still maintains a dial up service for pretty cheap.
