Newt Gingrich Clarifies Comment On Child Labor Laws

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich clarified his comment calling child labor laws "stupid" Monday in an interview with The Washington Post.

He said he was not advocating revamping child labor laws or suggesting children drop out of school to become janitors. "I'm talking about working 20 hours a week and being empowered to succeed." Gingrich, however, repeated the idea Monday in New Hampshire, saying that replacing unionized janitors with students would be "dramatically less expensive."

Federal guidelines state that minors aged 14 and 15 generally may not work more than 18 hours a week when school is in session, and no more than 3 hours per day when school is in session. Some states have stricter limits.

"It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in, first of all, child laws, which are truly stupid," said the former House speaker Friday at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. "Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they'd begin the process of rising."

Wow... Great idea... Let's expose the kids to chemicals (when they can't understand and appreciate the warning and use labels); subject them to possible injuries, and use them to get rid of the unionized workers. Is there no end to this man's great ideas?!? I'm impressed!

Oh, and insert standard "Clinton got a blow-job" comment here: _____________________________

LJ's "(Because there is such a moral equivalence between cheating on two wives before ending up with the third...including serving #2 divorce-papers while recovering from cancer in the hospital...and a b.j."

Bonking Bill Clinton

The London Times recently wrote that President Bill Clinton "may forever be known as Bonking Bill, the president who could not keep his trousers on." There is certainly plenty of evidence to prove the Times right. Even before elected, candidate Clinton was dodging a barrage of accusations, ranging from sexual mischief, fathering an illegitimate child of a prostitute and sexual harassment.

One former Clinton insider described Clinton as " very lustful and bold, especially when he was around women he perceived might be receptive to his overtures." Arkansas State troopers, who were required to manage much of Clinton's schedule while governor, claim he often sent them to ask women to meet him.

The troopers say there are many women with whom "Bonking Bill" had affairs during that time. They report such antics as his sneaking out while his wife Hillary was asleep or inviting women in for "personal tours of the governor 's mansion" when she was working at the Rose law firm. Some of the women have talked openly about their affairs with Clinton but most of their spicy confessions have been ignored by the press.

What are you saying with that post Outdoor? Is it OK to have an affair because Clinton did it? Does it speak to the kind of man Newt is or not? Are you OK with the behavior of Newt as a potential president? If you are, then why make such a big deal of Clinton's behavior? And, if you are not OK with Clinton's behavior, why would you ignore that behavior in a Republican. So many questions, got any answers?

My private school had a program for the kids who couldn't afford tuition, they cleaned classrooms and did other janitorial work after school. LJ would prefer we not allow this. And no one that I know of got any chemical burns or injured themselves

A local Jesuit High School has kids go to school in the morning and then do internships with local businesses in the afternoon getting valuable work experience and helping to pay thier tuition. Once again, LJ would prefer we not let disadvantaged kids have any opportunities to earn income for school and/or their families.

And the latest attack on the family farm, LJ would also approve of, young family members wouldn't be allowed to help out with equipment. Personally I was running a hay bailer and mower when I was 14 and wasn't injured. And once again learned valuable skills.

Nope, LJ and the the author of this Gingrich hit piece would prefer we pump the kids out of poor schools and tell them to get jobs when they are 18 with no experience.

Great post. And My bother and I were working in the fields at 10. And our farm would have gone under and we would not have eaten if we would have had to hire someone. LJ and other's like them sitting on their high almighty morals without living in the real world have no clue about reality and especially about the lives of farmers and ranchers in rural America. They just like to judge without any real life experience of the situations.

And yes America's leaders and Liberals have turned into a bunch of spineless, weak people who pander to those who have no life and want to try and control others to try and feel some sort of self worth. Mind your own damn business! You don't care about defensless babies int he womb. You want to keep laws to kill them and then when they are born you want to create more laws to control theri lives again. It is all about wanting to control others, for liberals. That is why they support biggert government all the time.
