I think it's because the candidates that appeal to the center have the most chance of getting votes from voters from the opposite party. Neither side has a majority from their base, that's why they try to appeal to the independents, the voters in the middle. Extreme candidates have a very difficult time getting elected. Polarizing politicians usually always lose.

But I thought the Tea Party runs on the belief that they won't compromise their beliefs or standards, yet they are doing just that. That is why the Tea Party is losing it's power. They use to fight for true conservative values. Now they are getting watered down and many Tea Party members I know support candidates who don't fight for strong conservative values at all.

You say the Tea Party is losing it's power because they are not kissing the ass of your guy Perry....you would be speaking a different tune if the majority of the TP were just as dilusional as you. The facts is that Perry had a great chance early on (and I was hopeful), but he quickly showed how weak he was with debates, he then turned into a liberal's dream by bashing his opponents more than Obama (and looked like a tool), then he was late with his tax reform plan (he followed Cain instead of lead), then he just became a joke when he couldn't remember 1 out of 3 departments he would cut.

You see Viking, it's more important to beat Obama than it is to be the perfect conservative. The Tea Party is being careful not to pick someone who the independants won't be able to stomach....Perry may as well be a sh@t sandwich.

First off Perry has been one of the top debaters in the last two. It just took him a few to get use to it so that is a non issue. Cain is the worst debator by far. He keeps saying the wrong things then saying he was misunderstood, all he can do is repeat 9-9-9 on anything and when you bring up foreign issues, he looks like a deer in the headlights. And seriously you are still hanging onto him forgeting the word energy? There are times I am introducing friends I have known for years and forget their name. Does that mean I am not qualified to be their friend? I guess to you it would. And as far as following Cain? That is a joke! Cain was in almost 3 months longer than Perry. It took Cain a LOT longer to produce his only plan so far. And Perry's flat tax plan he has talked about in Texas for a long time. And who did Perry bash? One attack on Romney and it is bashing? Everybody has attacked everybody on that stage but you only want to talk about Perry. So I guess Bachmann bashed Newt and Perry. Newt bashed Paul and Bachmann. Paul bashed Santorum and Newt. Romney bashed Huntsman and visa versa. So what is your point? IT IS CALLED A DEBATE!!

And you are saying that everything the Tea Party stood for goes right out the window and they will settle for who can maybe win, over their beliefs. Good to know. So funny! I vote with my conservative values and won't let go of my standards and sell my soul just because the media tells me to.

The Republicans would be smart to stop all further debates until a month before the convention...

V, I do not think you realize it but you have become the mirror image of Lady Jazzer. Is that where you want to be?

I hate the way we pick candidates. It seems designed to deliver the worst of the litter. I'd prefer a short, intense series of debates featuring ALL the candidates then all the primaries on the same day.

I have never liked dragging the primaries out over months, giving the early states more influence over who the nominee will be. Nor do I think the process should take over a year. We desperately need election reform, from how our candidates are chosen to term limits for those in office.

The last round of elections earlier this month showed, definitely, that the TEA Party has not lost any of its ferver. The stories in the media about the TEA Party losing members is only another attempt to lessen their power and support. We will not know if they have lost their zeal until the results of the big election next year. Until then, it is all just liberal media and Viking propaganda.

The statement that the Tea Party has not lost any of it's ferver is questionable. The Tea Party lost a few big contests a couple of weeks ago.

The Tea Party is more of a mindset than anything else imo. I don't have to go to meetings, protest, or anything else to say that I am a member. Just like the OWS movement, there are many on the left who agree with them but don't feel the need to disrupt businesses and inconvenience the 99% they supposedly want to help.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
