Students storm British Embassy in Tehran

Keep an eye on this one - I suspect things are about to boil over in Iran.

Sounds like 1979 all over again.

Were I to guess, I'd expect events to culminate before the calendar year is over.

Mind you, I'm not a professional or even experienced future-teller. I'm much more at-home in Arabia than Persia - although there are some similarities.

Iran is about as predictable as the Yellowstone caldera --- you know things will eventually boil over --- but nobody really knows when.

I've read about 6-7 articles on this today, I see "protestors"... Nowhere do I see "students"... Where are you seeing that? Just curious that you may be seeing different coverage than I am....

Prayers sent for the embassy staff.
Hopefully the mullahs fix things quick.

I monitor a number of sources from Arabia, which initially used the phrase "hard-line students."

DAWN (Pakistan) - uses the phrase "Dozens of young Iranian men."

Iran's official news agency (Mehr News) says

A number of Iranian students stormed the British Embassy compound in Tehran on Tuesday and pulled down the flag.
Police forces were not able to prevent students from storming the embassy. The students smashed windows and setting the British flag on fire. The protest followed Britain’s hostile moves against Iran.Police have dispersed the students.

(read it before it magically goes away)

Humorously, the Arabic version reads much more lively - including references to the "trio of terror" (UK, US, and Israel).

For a dramatically different version, read the Persion tab (labeled "Fars") --- which notes that "in spite of law enforcement's best efforts....." It goes on to note that police gassed the protestors, and removed them from the Embassy.

Thanks... I wasn't doubting you... I just hadn't seen that word in the coverage I was getting...

IIRC, the original US embassy hostage taking was where the current Iranian leader got his start.

I'm pretty sure it's just another OWS protest.

Actually it relates withdrawing financial support.

The demonstrators were showing their anger at Britain’s announcement last week that it was cutting off all relations with Iran’s financial sector as part of a raft of sanctions coordinated with the United States and Canada

Apparently the feeling among the protesters is that a Nation does not have the right to do anything but support Iran. And here i thought the anointed ones lived elsewhere in the Middle East.

Another read is that existing and new sanctions are having quite an effect.

curious contrast of words......

The official Iranian sources use the word "students."

However - UK sources say:

Diplomats and observers who reviewed video footage of the incident said it was clear from the clothing, placards and behaviour of some of the protesters that a significant number were basiji, who were the regime's shock troops in crushing street protests after the 2009 election.
