Strange case! Why would a man with a distinguished career disgrace himself by delving into hiring male prostitutes and drug use/sales? Or was this happening while he was sheriff?
I wouldn't throw the book at him. At his age, even a year in county jail would be pretty brutal considering he was in law enforcement.

Or considering the nature of the charges, a conviction may give him just what he likes. Bend over Pat!
Though it hasn't fully been proved, I believe he is ill and ailing...and even if the book is thrown at him, he probably won't survive that long to see it.
I also believe that the sex stuff has been happening for a while...not the selling meth for sex...that probably started later. Drugs and sex really can warp a formerly good person.
