The Denver Post has an article about this today. Public school coaches complaining that the best players in thier districts are poached by private high schools. Personally I see it as a great reward of a better education for poor or middle class parents who can't afford Valor Christians's 30K tuition.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
I know for a fact that that's done. We have a friend who's son was a standout football player, and he was recruited by a private high school (who shall remain nameless). When he told the coach that his parents couldn't afford the tuition the coach told him to "put his mother's yearly income on the application form - that's what everyone else does" so that he could get subsidized. He decided, based on that, not to attend the school. He chose honesty and we applauded him for that.
I think sports should be outside of the schools, not part of them. Concentrate on learning, not playing sports for the chosen few and spending big bucks on them.
When I went to private high school, about 50% of the kids were on some sort of financial aid provided by the school itself. Some kids even cleaned classrooms after school so they could afford to attend. Back then my high school tuition was equivalent to CU without room and board.

Perhaps, if public schools could offer a solid education with sound morals instead of slanting histroy for their cause and being so worried about teaching tenure and keeping the union alive, private schools wouldn't be such a threat.
The Denver Post continued their feature today about if Valor Christian is cheating by recruiting athletes. I think they are like any business, offer a better product and people will flock to your door.

It has always happened they are just picking on Private schools.
I went to a very prestgious high school and the booster club went out of their way to get athletes from far away and had to get transportation for many.
we went to State consistently.
There is no reason in the world everyone shouldn't be able to take a voucher to help pay for this if they so choose. Why you can't choose your school is ridiculous. $$ should follow the student.
Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
The Denver Post continued their series of articles today and threw out the idea that the private schools have unfair advantages and should have to play in their own seperate league. I don't think it is that big of a problem. For example, Lakewood played Columbine this year in 5A. Seems the big outer suburb schools like Columbine do their own recruiting athletes away from Denver Public Schools.

Regardless of where senior Elway went to high school, would it not be foolish to speculate that Cherry Creek (a public school) was recruiting junior Elway to attend? Of course, he did not amount to much.
Recruiting happens in public school as well as private.
My supposition is the Liberal media is on a mission to crucify private schools (Valor Christian) because of the money and talent be taken out of the public school system. I hear from a colleague official of mine that CHSAA will be addressing the issue in January.
Stealing a page from the Liberal/Socialist playbook, why can't will all COEXIST?
