Bad News For Republicans

Results from a new national survey from the Pew Research Center should strike fear into the hearts of incumbents in Congress, especially those who are members of the Republican Party. A record number of respondents want to vote sitting lawmakers out of office, and Republicans take more of the blame than Democrats for perceptions of a do-nothing Congress.

According to the Pew Research report, two-thirds (67 percent) of registered voters nationwide say "most members of Congress" should be voted out of office in 2012, while only 20 percent want most members reelected. This desire to fire all incumbents marks a record level of discontent since the Pew Center started asking the question 18 years ago, far exceeding previous highs of 57 percent in 2010 and 56 percent in 1994.

I agree they should all be fired, but I am not so sure I want them replaced.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Seems that many election cycles the manta is "throw all the bums out (except for my bum - he/she's okay)" so nothing really changes. We'll see if the electorate really puts their votes where the polls are this time around.

Yes, I can see that ALL of American's problems originate with the Republican Party. I just love that sort of intellectual honesty. It reflects the depth of thought any person making such a statement has. Really.

Frankly, I would love to propose a new "Put Up or Shut Up" Option. We could draw straws to see if the Democrats or the Republicans should go first. Makes no matter to me. The idea would be to have one party COMPLETELY in charge of the Presidency, the House and the Senate. We would keep a balance of justices on the Supreme Court.

The idea would be for that party to have total control of the Nation for four years. They wouldn't have any lame excuses for why they didn't get it done. They would be unencumbered to do pretty much what they want as long as they kept the budget balanced and took care of critical national business like national security. At the end of the four years the American people could finally make a decision about how GREAT it would be for any one party to be calling all the shots.

One more rule. If at the end of the four years the American people are unhappy with the outcome..then we would, indeed, "vote the bums out" and would allow the other party a chance to try it.

In the end I'm certain the American people would be dissatisfied with the outcome of either party completely ruling the roost. It's a nice pipe dream, but unrealistic and REALLY bad for America. Those on the extreme left and right are sniffing too much glue and would love it as part of their crazy little parade, but the rest of America (the 99% of fairly balanced people) would know once and for all how much BS extreme anything really is.

I'm sick of hearing from both extreme ends of the political spectrum. Both camps (far right and far left) need to be relegated to a mental institution because they simply aren't playing with a full deck.

People talk, but when the time comes to vote they'll vote their party line and probably for their incumbent.

Republicans just passed the payroll tax extension, a defense spending bill and a Sanctions bill barring diplomacy with Iran. All will be held up in the Senate by Reid and the Dems even though they have enough votes to pass it. Several Dems in the Senate have agreed on these bills but Reid won't let them vote on it. The Dems are total obstructionists and it will come out with these bills.

I didn't read the quote in the original post that way at all. What it said to me is that Americans are getting disgusted.

They vote for change in one direction.

And nothing improves.

Then they reverse direction, and vote for change in the other.

And nothing improves.

Now it looks like they are getting ready to change directions yet again.

Why do they think anything is going to improve?

It's why I said I think they should all be fired, but I'm not so sure I want them replaced.

I just wonder how many times people are going to go through this pointless excercise before it starts dawning on them they always get the same result no matter which party they put in charge of things. And then how much longer after THAT before they start figuring out why that is.

Aspen-it makes me think of two people in a small boat in the middle of a lake. As you know, small boats are fun and good utility, but they are easily capsized. It's illogical for the two people in the boat to start leaning to one side and then the other continuously. Sooner or later the boat will flip over and sink into the drink. This is how it seems these days in the American electorate.

All of one sides ideas or all of the other sides ideas is simply not the answer. Also, sending people who live on the very edge of the political spectrum (either right or left) is not the answer because there is no reason or compromise. Just a mantra.

Extreme politics and extreme political views are killing our country. We need people who reside more towards the middle of the spectrum. Most Americans don't want what the extreme right or the extreme left is trying to sell them.
