With pipelines, its not a matter of if there will be a spill...only a question of when and how devastating.

How do the conservatives here feel about the hundreds of eminent domain cases already filed in TX and NE? You guys ok with a foreign corp taking Americans' lands against their wishes?

This (snake)oil pipeline has many negative impacts, with almost no real positives. We're being sold a scam - do your research and don't buy into this lie.

Cornell Report Busts Myth of Keystone XL Job Creation
Ben Jervey
29 September 11

Proponents of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline project would like you to believe that, if approved, its construction will put hundreds of thousands of Americans to work. This is plainly untrue, according to a new report by the Cornell University Global Labor Institute.

The project will create no more than 2,500-4,650 temporary direct construction jobs for two years, according to TransCanada’s own data supplied to the State Department.

Based on TransCanada’s own figures provided to the Canadian government, operating costs for the U.S. section of their pipeline are minimal, and new permanent American jobs created would likely be as few as 50.

Without Facts on Their Side, Oil Shills Try to Buy Keystone Support on Twitter

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Republican Congressional Committee want to make sure that no matter what your opinion of the decision, and no matter who you follow, that you won't be able to avoid their political spin. Both groups are paying for "Promoted Tweets" on various Twitter streams relating to the Keystone XL decision.

The truth remains that Keystone XL, if built, would be an export pipeline that would do nothing to increase American energy security, would actually increase the cost of oil in the Midwest , and which would create no more than, according to TransCanada itself , 6,000 temporary jobs on any given day. And that's questionable, since in the long run, this pipeline could kill more jobs than it creates [PDF of Cornell study] .

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Hey znov, my assertions are based on the independent Cornell study and TransCanada's own statements. I'd have no problem admitting an error if you can provide facts to dispute my statements - but you can't - you just insult me...call me names...even though you know nothing about me. It's ok. I hold no grudge...

Let's see what the folks who actually WORK in the industry have had to say about this project in the last year...

Union Support For Keystone XL Pipeline Project

General President William P. Hite and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada lauded the U.S. Department of State decision to move forward with a next step for the Keystone XL pipeline permit.

The State Department expects to request public comment on a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed pipeline. A 45-day public comment period would begin with a Federal Register notice expected to be issued in mid-April.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline will play a vital role in putting deserving people to work in this difficult economy. It will also help promote U.S. energy independence,” General President Hite said. “We are sincerely grateful for the State Department’s prudent decision to move this forward.

Hmmmm

Obama’s Rejection of Keystone Pipeline Sets Up Campaign Battle

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama’s rejection of TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL pipeline permit exposed a split in a core Democratic constituency and handed Republicans a new line of election-year attack.

Unions representing construction workers condemned the move while labor groups including the United Steel Workers, the United Auto Workers and the Service Employees International Union joined with environmental advocates in saying they support Obama’s decision. It also triggered swift criticism from congressional Republicans and the party’s presidential candidates.

Maybe these folks know what they are talking about...

Unions Furious at Obama for Killing Pipeline Jobs

Washington, D.C. (November 10, 2011) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement today in response to the U.S. State Department delay of the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:

Environmentalists formed a circle around the White House and within days the Obama Administration chose to inflict a potentially fatal delay to a project that is not just a pipeline, but is a lifeline for thousands of desperate working men and women. The Administration chose to support environmentalists over jobs – job-killers win, American workers lose.

I guess the socialist sitting in their little cubicles at Think Progress knows better than the unions and trade groups that actually deal with this industry on a daily basis. Obama is painting himself in a corner he will never get out of.
