“The hearing will examine flaws in the management structure of the Justice Department as demonstrated in the genesis and implementation of the ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious,” said Issa in a letter to Holder. “Specifically, the hearing will focus on what senior Department officials could and should have done to put a stop to this reckless program, as well as the specific areas where failures in communication and management occurred.”

Mr Holder refers to himself in the third person?Something the Dog Said wrote: His reference to the critics were and I quote his actual remarks:
"Mr. Holder contended that many of his other critics — not only elected Republicans but also a broader universe of conservative commentators and bloggers" which certainly is a much larger universe than republican congressmen. Of that universe, he referred to a few extremists of that larger group to criticize him because of his race and as a stand in for President Obama. Certainly your remarks and those of the OP and other idiots here are factually untrue, as he went on to state that most of his critics are against him based on idealogical differences.

Holder offers no basis whatsoever for his accusation. I’m still at a loss for what makes him say it — but I’m not at a loss as to how it affects the conversation. The “racist!” accusation is invariably invoked as a conversation-stopper. It’s intended to settle a debate without having to attend to the pesky matter of actually debating.

That is a complete distortion of the attorney general’s comment. His comments both in the article and elsewhere made clear that he believes much of the criticism launched against him [is] unfortunately the typical Washington gotcha game. A simple reading of those comments show he was referring to how he is identified with the president given their close relationship and all they share in common, including their ideology. The position of the attorney general has been a target for partisan attacks, and, given the critical work that this attorney general is doing at the Department of Justice, it’s no surprise that some are engaging in such tactics. His critics rightly view the attorney general as a progressive force, and, given our current political environment, there will be those who use any opportunity to score political points.
Of that group of critics, Mr. Holder said he believed that a few — the “more extreme segment” — were motivated by animus against Mr. Obama and that he served as a stand-in for him. “This is a way to get at the president because of the way I can be identified with him,” he said, “both due to the nature of our relationship and, you know, the fact that we’re both African-American.”
