Ron Paul accepts supremacists, and anti-Zionist support

Paul Disowns Extremists’ Views but Doesn’t Disavow the Support

Mr. Paul’s surprising surge in polls is creating excitement within a part of his political base that has been behind him for decades but overshadowed by his newer fans on college campuses and in some liberal precincts who are taken with his antiwar, anti-drug-laws messages.

The white supremacists, survivalists and anti-Zionists who have rallied behind his candidacy have not exactly been warmly welcomed. “I wouldn’t be happy with that,” Mr. Paul said in an interview Friday when asked about getting help from volunteers with anti-Jewish or antiblack views.

But he did not disavow their support. “If they want to endorse me, they’re endorsing what I do or say — it has nothing to do with endorsing what they say,” said Mr. Paul, who is now running strong in Iowa for the Republican nomination.

Of course, this is not news to anyone who has kept up with Ron Paul's career. He's been a anti-black-anti-gay-anti-jewish-conspiracy-new-world-bank-new-world-order-new-money conspiracy nut for years. Fr the Ron Paul supporters here on 285 Bound... tell me... reason with me... How can Ron Paul disagree with these groups messages but accept their support?

scratching my head at the term "anti-zionist."

I'm hardly a fan of the expansive inclinations of Israel (Zionism) - however, my objection is with their policy - not their race (indeed, many Jews share my views!)

In this article, the term seems to be used in lieu of "anti-Semitism" (another clumsy term, often used to allude to hatred of Jews - which seems to be abandoned since Arabs - who are Semites - can't be called "anti-semitic").

Damn - I hate labels.......

Frankly - I'm not that far away from Paul's views. I'd prefer the power of the market over the power of the bureaucracy, any day.

Well... that's too bad for you. Maybe you need to get a little more familiar with some of the racist and bigoted comments and commentary he has siad and published over the last 20 years. Maybe you'll change your mind... or maybe not.

Here... maybe you need to dig deeper into this guy before you start riding on his horse with him...

If Paul’s explanations are to be believed at face value, he’s a shockingly naïve man. If your goal is to persuade people that the libertarian cause is free of bigotry, courting support from bigots is a really stupid way to do it.

You are really ignoring more than 20 years of viable evidence that Ron Paul is a racist.

I wouldn't vote for this nutjob anyway, but after reading his racist and homophobic rants, I wonder if he should be walking the streets unescorted?

And just to cross post something to make a point...

I think this thread answers that question Science Chic.

Where's the Viking?

Shouldn't he be all over this thread, accusing anyone of being a racist themselves for finding Ron Paul's comments to be racist?
