OK, I just need to get this out there to educate people on reality. The Dems and Obama have been holding America hostage for years over raising the taxes on the upperclass. They claimed it would go a long ways towards paying down our debt. Well here it is. It would bring in a paltry $11 billion dollars. We spend over $40 billion dollars PER DAY!! That means they have been fighting so hard against everything until they got this tax increase that would help pay for about 6 hours of debt out of an entire year!! Are you kidding me??? How clueless are these people? Remember this and vote them out next November!!
If you were deep in debt and someone offered you a job that would pay $500, would you turn it down because it wasn't enough to pay off the whole debt? Or would you do the job and keep looking for more ways to make money to pay down your debt?
The argument that we should ignore revenue because on its own it won't bring the debt to zero, it pretty short sighted.

OK, educate me. And hope you had a nice Christmas!

I guess you are talking about President Obama's plan to drop the Bush tax cuts for those making over $250K ($200K for singles) which would amount to 4.6% increase?

Now it's clear you aren't talking what the Dems and Obama have been talking about for years. Based on your own link, you are talking about a very recent Dem proposal in the Senate to increase taxes for those making over $1 million by 1.9%. And no, they didn't get that tax increase as you claim. It died in the Senate. It was ment to help pay for the 2% payroll tax which the Repubs first agreed to, then opposed, then flip-floped back again on. Even with the flip-flop, the 1.9% increase did not happen. But it was a 2 month agreement and I guess it will come up again.
Yes, a 1.9% tax increase isn't going to amount to much in the large scheme of things. But your point about it applying to millionaires isn't relevant, it wouldn't amout to much even if applied to everyone. And again, it was only ment to help pay for the 2% payroll cut, and wasn't intended to pay for the whole economy.
I know what you mean. What idiots we have in office. They pass a bill that further kills America's chance of getting out of this funk by trying to get America to believe that the Republicans are holding up progress. Well, guess what progress is.
For TWO months of a tax exemption extension YOU get:
1.) 30 years of paying an additional $15 (possibly more) PER MONTH on your FHA mortgage.
2.) You may now have to live in a "lessor" home because you can not afford the additional $15 tax per month.
3.) You are now denied the socio-economic status of keeping up with the Jones' because you can not afford the more expense house.
4.) Come March 1, you will now have to PAY more in payroll TAXES, AND....
5.) You still have to pay the damn $15 PER MONTH mortgage TAX!
Congratulations to the idiots that voted for the idiots in office!
And, for those idiots (Archer, LJ, Pine, et al) that will conduct there "drive-by" and say it was all Boehner's fault... REMEMBER the idiots in chief that proposed the whole thing had "D"s following their surname.

Er... what "tax increase" are you talking about... your statement "fighting so hard against everything until they got this tax increase" is patently a lie. There has been no tax increase passed anywhere for millionaires. It's right in the first sentence you dumm·kopf... "proposed 1.9 percent surtax on million-dollar"... let's sound out the word carefully... slowly... p r o p o s e d... it was proposed, never passed.
How clueless are you Viking? Remember this and and don't take any advice from Viking next November.
You answered your own insult... Obama proposed a year's extension; The Senate agreed; it went to the House where Boehner and the goofballs put some poison-pills in it that they knew wouldn't pass and sent it back...
Yep... You nailed it... Boehner and the teabaggers blew it again.
But I do so love "false equivalences"... Yes, "6 hours of debt"... And taxing the hedge fund managers won't pay down all the debt; and letting the Bush tax-cuts expire won't pay down all the debt; and forcing the top 1% to pay a bit more won't pay down all the debt; and closing the tax-loopholes on corporate jets won't pay down all the debt; and closing the loopholes for the oil companies won't pay down all the debt; and sticking it to the slimebags that hide their personal wealth in numbered bank accounts over in Switzerland won't pay down all the debt.... But taken all together?... Yeah, they can make a SERIOUS dent in the debt.
"6 hours"?... I'll take it... And then in two months when Boehner is still trying to pull his little tantrums, perhaps we'll get a better deal.

Your response has little if anything to do with the original post.
And your insult aside, I do agree the mortgage tax (different subject) is a dumb idea (though it only applies to new loans, not existing loans as you suggested with points #2 and #5). That's what got added after the Repubs balked on the first proposal, then reversed themselves again.
Thanks Republicans. Instead of a 1.9% tax on millionaires which they can easily afford, we instead get a tax on every future FHA mortgage which will be paid by many who can barely afford their home as it is.
