Myanmar's government on Thursday approved the National League for Democracy to run in upcoming by-elections that will return Aung San Suu Kyi's party to mainstream politics after two decades, the opposition leader said.

The goverment has been making some positive moves but I still wonder if they will get scared when they see democracy in actual action. Plus a lot of the civvie economy is under the control of the current political/military leaders. I can't see them wanting to lose this cash cow.
Similar reason for why the people are still in revolt in Egypt. Mubarak may be gone, but his tradition of military crony capitalism is continuing.
