Here is some serious reading. I understand that we need to cut the DOD budget. There are places it can be done and not have big impact on troops yet save billions. We wont do that, instead read what is going to happen.
SOSDD. Every admin has tried the same thing with the willing participation of the brass at the puzzle palace.

Agreed. So does the govt bureaucracy, but Obama won't touch the ridiculous benefits of govt workers, but he will go after the military. Lets have some equal time. Time to strip the stupid stuff (like paying our unused sick leave when you retire).
Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
I like Coffman's idea, clear out the brass. Too many generals and admirals clogging things up. The US military is starting to look like a banana republic with more officers than privates.
Hit benefits instead of weapons programs? Only makes sense votes wise, Congressman love to have weapons built in their district and military with full benefits is a very small percentage of the US population. Maybe they need to organize and create a military AARP to lobby to keep the benefits. I am sure a media campaign on Fox News could do a lot. Having Bill O'Reilly confronting members of Congress who wanted to strip out benefits.
BTW, I agree with LJ and the military does need to make some cuts. I would review many of our overseas facilities to see if we really need them.
