As of December 1, 2011, it is illegal to be homeless in the European country of Hungary, as a new law prohibiting it comes into effect. Those who are found to be in breach of this law will initially be given a warning for sleeping out on the streets. Offenders may also face a fine of US$600, which equates to £382 or €445, or a jail sentence.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Food shelter clothing, Win-Win.
Plus the Gubment (meaning the tax payers) foots the bill, maybe the Hungarians miss not being part of the Soviet Union? I suppose that those who can will pack up and move on to neighboring countries to leach off of their Gubmnets instead.

The homeless do not necessarily want to mooch off the government. The government forces them to come in out of the cold, come in and get a meal, etc. The moochers will take the housing, clothing, etc. The traditional homeless walk away as soon as they can. They have an extreme desire for independence, to the point of self destruction.
Ummm. anyone else embarassed that we did not come up with this first....oh wait mabye we did. I know we despise the poor in this country and tell them they should do better, perhaps we simply inspired this. We ship the homeless to other jurisdictions, this is the same idea, but with more independence, they are "encouraged" to leave.
It will be interesting to see how our systems/people deal with the increase in poor and homeless if they explode. Anyone from Hungary that would like to explain it from a local perspective? Most people from Hungary I have met are pretty nice....and give you lots of food to eat, but they are the richie riches that moved to the US, so like those doing OK financially in the US, they don't actually represent the people at large...just like those on here.
I'm not really one to toss out the name "Hitler" all that quickly --- but the anti-homeless resolution --- if it's what it sounds like --- sounds a little Hitleresque to me. (Hitler was one of many historical leaders that persecuted the Romani group - in his case, in 1940).
Outlawing 10,000 people --- tossing them in jail --- simply sounds wrong to me.
(the Hungarian homeless population is about the same as the Denver metro homeless population)
