If judged by a fair press, would any candidate pass muster?
Ron Paul? Too old and his foreign policy is too radical.
Santorum? Religion too extreme.
Romney? Cold fish who flip flops, only cares about becoming president.
Gingrich? Moral deviant with his hand in the public till.
Obama? Not enough economic and managerial experience to run a country, even after a four year internship.

The way I see it, President Obama being replaced is a foregone conclusion UNLESS the economy somehow miraculously turns around in a big way in the next six months or so. Otherwise, all the GOP and moderates are doing is taking their time picking his replacement. I'm okay with them taking their time and really vetting the candidate. Since that person will be our next president and will be inheriting a gigantic mess....we are going to need a really good one.
