New Mexico House Passes Bill Calling On Congress To Reverse Citizens United
February 1, 2012
By Stephen D. Foster Jr.

Another blow has been struck against Citizens United, and this time it’s not by a city council. The New Mexico House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday, calling for Congress to overturn Citizens United via Constitutional Amendment. The final vote was 38-29 with one independent and one Republican joining Democrats to rebuke the controversial Supreme Court case that has allowed corporations and the super wealthy to donate unlimited amounts of money to candidates through the unfettered use of Super PACS.

The New Mexico House joins the city councils of New York City, Albany, Missoula, Los Angeles, and several others across the country in calling for an end to Citizens United. The bill now heads for the New Mexico Senate.

Is it true as they say in the link that Mitt Romney has publicly stated his support of Citizens United? rofllol

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Would be nice if the "reporter" managed to get their facts straight for a change. The money donated to the so called Super PACs isn't donated to the candidate, their campaign, or any political party and must, as a matter of law, be spent without any consultation or in coordination with with any of the above.

Repeating a lie over and over and over again will never make it the truth SC, it simply makes one a serial liar.

But I am glad to see them going about changing the law in a constitutional manner for a change. I'm curious as to why the are calling on Congress to write and amendment instead of passing a law calling for a constitutional convention to address the issue. Perhaps that is next if Congress fails to head the call of the state legislatures, time will tell.

This really isn't Congress's or New Mexico's call, it is the Supremes. And I predict it will stay for a long time. It is liked by the bigwigs of both parties.

SCOTUS has already weighed in. To change what the law is will at this point require a change to the Constitution itself. Either 2/3 of both houses in Congress must pass an amendment for the States to consider or 2/3 of the States must call for a Constitutional Convention in order to silence the currently constitutional right to engage in wholly independent political speech that they have. NM is asking Congress to write an amendment to chill political speech, which certainly is something that any corrupt and despotic entity would be more than willing to do.
