“When I talk about our financial institutions playing by the same rules as folks on main street, when I talk about making sure insurance companies aren’t discriminating against those who are already sick or making sure that unscrupulous lenders aren’t taking advantage of the most vulnerable among us, I do so because I genuinely believe it will make the economy stronger for everybody,” Obama explained. “But I also do it because I know far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years. And I believe in God’s command to love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Except for the fact that there is almost nothing in the hebrew or greek scriptures that can be used as some sort of proof text for taxes. Who ever advised Obama on the topic (or maybe he himself thinks he know his scriptures) blew it. I'm an atheist and I have a better understanding of what's in the bible... Obama is a tool.

This phrase has become a widely quoted summary of the relationship between Christianity and secular authority. The original message, coming in response to a question of whether it was lawful for Jews to pay taxes to Caesar. Nothing in Jesus' answer references an amount to pay. Jesus was not setting up a tax code. That's up to the secular authorities. Obama cannot lean on scriptures to prove that the rich should pay more, or the poor should pay nothing... there is no advice or information offered to the authorities. Obama is just misusing scripture. No surprise there.
