It's nice reading this board...
You, as a representative of the extreme left show the worst of anyone right of center.
Then there's the right wing nut jobs that show the worst of anyone to the left of center.
And you both bash anyone that manages to stay in the center as being too weak to take a real stand.
One stop shopping, and I get to read all the worst stores about the corruption going on.

I think it is funny that he actually lost money overall, not a very successful inside trader. LOL :)

From p. 2 of the OP article.

Although he has sometimes made money on trades, his financial disclosures indicate that his net worth has been cut in half during his time in Congress, declining from up to $2.3 million in 1995 to up to $1.1 million at the start of this year.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

Great point. Just because you know something before the market does, it doesn't mean the market will like the news as much as you do.

Example: my company bought a private company, we thought it would double our sales and triple our profits, but the street reacted to the news with a yawn for over a year until the increased profits showed up on our balance sheets.

STOCK act? The Denver Post is saying some of our legistators think the act has been watered down. To be expected. Congress was one of the last places in DC where you could still smoke at work.

So, just so I understand the usual apologist/Rightie position... If he lost money on something that was basically illegal, then it's OK?

The Post is right... In typical GOP fashion, they'll water it down so they still have loopholes to make money off of it in ways the general public cannot.

I think you've interpreted the posts wrong.

It's funny that the guy's such a knucklehead that even with inside information he looses money.

So, he's already been fined, now he can be fried in the legal system on top of it. Like salt in a wound.

I'm against Right and Left doing this....personally, I think everyone elected to govt should have to put their $$ in US Treasuries while in office.

I think it is funny that he lost $$ and now will be fined.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

You can hear the surprise in *MY* voice... (We'll pause for a couple of minutes here so "Fred" can Google a "Democrats did it too" example to use in a sentence....Surely there must have been something back around 1947...?)

So does this mean when someone on the right puts up a bad story about someone on the left, you won't put up a "Republicans did it too" response to derail the thread? Because in the past, when you could not defend the offender, this was one of your most common Pavlov tactics. I applaud you for your new debating style and look forward to arguing the "actual" topics with you and not "they did it too" diversions.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Don't hold your breath... Since you guys love doing it so much, (speaking of "Pavlovian"...) it makes my day to point out the hypocrisy on the Right when they accuse Dems of doing the same thing... (I just generally don't go back to the War of 1812 to try dig up a "they did it too" example...whereas....)

Rep. Bachus (R-Ala.) faces insider-trading investigation

The Office of Congressional Ethics is investigating the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee over possible violations of insider-trading laws, according to individuals familiar with the case.

Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), who holds one of the most influential positions in the House, has been a frequent trader on Capitol Hill, buying stock options while overseeing the nation’s banking and financial services industries.

The Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent investigative agency, opened its probe late last year after focusing on numerous suspicious trades on Bachus’s annual financial disclosure forms, the individuals said. OCE investigators have notified Bachus that he is under investigation and that they have found probable cause to believe insider-trading violations have occurred.
