Deputy's wife shot during gun safety class

Wright said Calvin Smith, a state-certified instructor who was off duty at the time of the incident, was unaware that a round was in the chamber, the Herald-Journal reported.

"If we learn anything from this, we have a very well trained guy that had an unfortunate accident that could have cost somebody their life," he said. "The instructor should have checked the pistol, and he didn't do it. It was just a mistake."

Whoopsie.

Well I guess that means we need another gun law.

I am obsessive compulsive about this and will check the chamber or cylinder at least three times before putting my finger on a trigger inside a building. But the shooter here broke a number of safety rules.

But they can't figure out a law that prevents carelessness...with guns, cars, knives, gas stoves, nail guns, tainted seafood, avalanches.....

There aren't very many laws that prevent anything... most laws just punish after the fact.

Maybe,,, it wasn't an accident...
