PETA kills more than 95 percent of pets in its care

For the record...

Documents published online this month show that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an organization known for its uncompromising animal-rights positions, killed more than 95 percent of the pets in its care in 2011... Fifteen years’ worth of similar records show that since 1998 PETA has killed more than 27,000 animals at its headquarters in Norfolk, VA. In a February 16 statement, the Center said PETA killed 1,911 cats and dogs last year, finding homes for only 24 pets... Kovich also determined that PETA employees kill 84 percent of the animals in their custody within 24 hours of receiving them... In 2005, two PETA employees described as “adorable” and “perfect” some of the dogs and cats they killed in the back of a PETA-owned van. The two were arrested after police witnessed them tossing the animals’ dead bodies into a North Carolina dumpster.

These folks spend more time and their 37 million dollar budget on political activism and totally loose sight of their core mission. This is typical of the left. Their pipe-dream ideologies overcome reasoning and common sense and the very people or ideals they so dearly want to protect eventually become victims to their misguided altruism.

Brought to you by CFF (The Center for Consumer Freedom). A company paid to discredit groups like PETA.

CCF is an industry-funded organization and front group for the restaurant, alcohol, tobacco and other industries. It is registered as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization under the IRS code 501(c). Over 40% of the group's 2005 expenditure was paid to Rick Berman's public relations company, Berman & Co. for "management services".

CCF clients have included Phillip Morris, Monsanto, Tyson Foods, Dean Foods and Coca Cola. Tyson is also a major supplier of restaurant chains, including Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds. Monsanto contracts product toxicity testing on animals out to Huntingdon Life Sciences. All of these corporations, as well as Phillip Morris contract laboratory Covance Laboratories, have subjects of campaigns and investigations by PETA and/or other groups.

CCF goal is to draw attention to their "enemies": just about every consumer and environmental group, chef, legislator or doctor who raises objections to things like pesticide use, genetic engineering of crops or antibiotic use in beef and poultry.

What percentage of the animals that PETA takes in are beyond medical help?
By the time PETA gets to an animal, it's pretty much on its last leg. The chances of so many tortured animals surviving what other organizations and owners do to them is quite low. However, CCF is capitalizing on this very thing by blaming PETA for what others do to animals!

So... facts are facts. Are you debating the facts presented in the article? If you are, what's the rebuttal?

And do you have to be on the "left" to care about animal welfare? Politicize much?

Those animals would be much better off on some Park County ranch?

While it’s true that PETA probably shouldn’t do hands-on animal rescue or shelter work, the CCF, through its involvement in cigarette smuggling, as well as its promotion of unhealthy lifestyles like cigarette smoking and eating fast food, ultimately kills people.

It is so confusing that Choose Cruelty Free http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/ and Centre for Consumer Freedom http://www.consumerfreedom.com/ both have the abbreviation CFF.

Have the Centre for Consumer Freedom chosen it on purpose you think?

So it that higher or lower than IMHS?
(I am strictly joking and support IMHS and two of our dogs come from them.)

I'm a leftie and I don't support much of PETA's agenda. I absolutely support animals being treated humanely and with respect and dignity, but their nonsense positions about going vegetarian, not wearing fur, and eliminating animal testing in medical and scientific research makes me want to have nothing to do with them. I appreciate that their efforts raise awareness of, and help curb some, animal abuse, and that there are guidelines in place in research to limit animal use as much as possible due to the efforts of groups such as these, but that's as far as it goes with me. Extremists are morons.

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

I have to agree with sc. I don't want to see animals needlessly abused, but PETA goes too far.
