Not every member of Islam condones what happened - the reason for my post of a link to an article in which the Libyan government apparently profusely apologized for what happened, and has promised to restore the site. To say that Islamic population is increasing in France to imply that something like this is inevitable there, too, is Islamophobic and very narrow minded, at best.

There are many moderate Islamic people, all the ones I have known have been pretty well assimilated into the US, but like everywhere, it only takes a few fired up nutjobs to give a bad impression of a religion, like LJ is always quick to find any example of Christians behaving badly.

Agreed, but why didn't you say that in your original post? The way your post was written gives the impression you believe just because the Islamic population is increasing in France that the World War II Veteran's cemeteries in France are at inevitable risk. It would have been a simple matter to include something to the effect that they are at risk from "a few fired up nutjobs" (as any cemetery is at risk anywhere, I might add). As far as LJ is concerned, I don't presume to speak for her, but to single her out here for your Tu Quoque posit is irrelevant to the thread.

And with the Taleban destroying the centuries old Buddhist statues, it was only a few nutjobs, but they were the intolerant nutjobs in control.

I don't disagree. But, in France, the French are in control (whether you or I consider them to be "nutjobs" or not), not the Islamics. Your original point was (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that because the Islamist population is on the increase in France, it is probably only a matter of time before World War II cemeteries in France will also be desecrated.

My point, exactly! So why do you continue to try to promote the idea this is an "Islamic" issue? That just doesn't compute for me.
