Lottery and Food Stamps

What's wrong with people these days? You take home over $500k cash in the lottery and still expect food stamps?

This takes the entitlement mentality to a new level.

From the article, sounds like she took the cash lump sum payout. Bad move. She'll be broke in 12 months.

Yes the attitudes of some are amazing, its not do I need it, its gimme gimme as long as I qualify for it.

And this has happened more than once. I know they go after deliquent fathers for back child support if they win the lottery, can they do the same for career welfare dependents?
Shouldn't the money be the states since they provided the cash to buy the lottery ticket in the first place?

It's a shame that someone who qualifies for food stamps would even think of buying lottery tickets. Well, since she didn't have to use the money on food she could buy a lot more lottery tickets!

Then again, some of the money spent on food stamps just circulates that way back to the states via the lottery. Minus the overhead and the lottery payouts...

Wrong again Martin....I don't approve of her getting food stamps. It may be legal, but we need to fix that and keep food stamps for those who truly need them.

I am not, however, surprised. There are selfish greedy people in every class...from the very rich to the very poor.

Not greedy archer - entitled. She feels that she is entitled to the money because she doesn't see it as charity that is provided for those in need, she sees herself as entitled to the money because the state gives money to those who are unemployed to help them pay for their food. This is what happens when the charity of others becomes your right as a resident - when all sense of failing or embarrassment associated with being dependent upon the charity of others has been removed and replaced with the belief that you are entitled to their support. That others have an obligation to provide support for you, it is no longer a benevolent gift from them, it is their obligation to you, you have a right to that money.

What ever you want to call it...there are people in every economic circumstance that feel "entitled". The very wealthy who feel entitled to keep all their money and not contribute their fair share to the country that made that collection of wealth possible. There are middle class folks who feel entitled to cheat on their taxes . There are lower class people who feel entitled to take welfare without actively working to improve their circumstances.

And then there are people like you who feel entitled to tell everyone who disagrees with them that they are wrong.
