The Village Voice is reporting that the New York City Police Department has confirmed the allegations of a police whistleblower that at least one precinct, perhaps more, has manipulated crime statistics in a way that makes it appear that crime is down in the city, which makes police commanders and the mayor appear good to both journalists and the electorate. Here’s an excerpt:

For more than two years, Adrian Schoolcraft secretly recorded every roll call at the 81st Precinct in Brooklyn and captured his superiors urging police officers to do two things in order to manipulate the “stats” that the department is under pressure to produce: Officers were told to arrest people who were doing little more than standing on the street, but they were also encouraged to disregard actual victims of serious crimes who wanted to file reports.

Arresting bystanders made it look like the department was efficient, while artificially reducing the amount of serious crime made the commander look good."..........................

The Brits were fudging the numbers to make it look like crime was going down, but then their paymasters started. Laying off hobbies because "crime was down".

Saw an article awhile back that said Aurora and Colorado springs were among a list of medium size cities nationwide with the lowest crime rates. Seemed unbelievable to me, but I don't trust statistics anyway.

Let's talk about stats....seems like everywhere there is more crime, there are more police. There are police in some schools now, the one's with lots of crime.

And 99% of criminals were brought up with bread as a basic part of their diet, but the same is true of police?????

Maybe if we stop thinking that the police are the main way to control crime, we can stop this game. Isn't this game the reason why we have more people locked up than any other country by number or %, it started around 1980, when we gave the police lots of incentive to priortize other things besides safety, we turned policing into a business and they optimized it. They are just human, wave a carrot and they want a bite. Trick is to hide the carrot...and have police have 4x the penalty for breaking the law than any other person, 4x the fines, 4x the time, we trusted them, no breaking the rules. Simple have citizen boards that oversee the police, no internal investigations of police unless we start letting other suspected criminal groups do their own investigations.

I think all that is lacking is checks and balances, but it is 2012, that is the theme, eliminate govt checks and balances, because it is not like the old days, these people can all be trusted, now get back to work and pay your taxes.

...and isn't another way of correcting this to charge the police, who of their own free will took other human beings into custody when they did not have the right to do so, with kidnapping and let them pay for thier crime, isn't that really the only solution?

Source or a guess?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
