Newt Gingrich Staff Cuts: Campaign To Fire One Third Of Full-Time Employees

Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign is shaking things up. The campaign plans to lay off one-third of full-time employees and scale back campaign appearances. Additionally, the former House speaker has replaced his campaign manager in order to pursue a “big-choice convention” strategy," a senior official told Politico.

Gingrich has struggled in the Republican nomination race, trailing far behind rivals Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in delegate totals, while his campaign has accumulated more debt than it has cash on hand.

Former campaign manager Michael Krull -- who took over following a high-level mutiny that nearly sunk Gingrich's hopes in June -- stepped down from his post last week, and was replaced by longtime Gingrich staffer Vince Haley. Communications director Joe DeSantis told Politico that Haley will help the campaign get back to "core Gingrich, which is a focus on big ideas and positive solutions."

Though Gingrich has only won two contests this primary season, South Carolina and Georgia, and has failed to keep pace with Rick Santorum among southern voters widely viewed as his base, the candidate and his campaign continue to insist he's in the race for the long haul.

I hate it when people covet others wealth. (I thought the thread title was clever).

Newt is starting to resemble the Milton in Office Space, he was fired a long time ago by the American people, but he just won't leave

Notes from Fox News interview with Ed Rollins, Reagan guy, this morning:

Newt is now less relevant and will have only the influence that his 138 delegates can give him.
He has as much influence as guys who play fantasy football influence the NFL.
He has strong ideas and ego. He never put his campaign together. He, his wife and daughters and family ran the campaign.

Ed Rollins goes on to speak about Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney and Obama.

Total side bar, but Ed Rollins is wrong. Fantasy football players have changed the game. It used to be QB's and running backs would take off the last quarter if their teams were winning easily or losing badly. Now they stay in the game to pad their stats for the FF fans, just like Newt & Santorum, they know the only chance they have is if a major scandal knocks Mitt out of the race.
