I finally started. Downloaded my pdf forms. Now my printer is out of ink, so I had to drive to Staples. Almost hit a deer on 285, all because of taxes! :)

Opened my 1099 form, and it was higher than I estimated. Probably get a penalty again this year.
Really, mine are very simple, no deductions, same every year. Ugggghh I just hate doing this.

Wouldn't it be nice if tax forms looked like this?

If your taxes are really simple, you can do them for free on-line at most of the tax software sites and they'll efile them for free as well.

If you do a Schedule A for itemized deductions, I don't think it's free, but I could be mistaken.

I don't trust the e-file 3rd party sites. All I have is 1040, sched. C and sched SE. Its really fairly easy and same every year. I still like to b*tch about it, its my American right! LOL

Besides, I have to send money with a check, so why bother with e-file. I like paper.

Captain Obvious. I don't think anyone likes doing their taxes. My father tortures himself with it every year and then gives it to his accountant to see who well he did. He is a masochistic.

Well, I am a tax masochist too I guess, been doing them for 30+ years on paper. I believe it should be every voter's civic duty to read and understand the forms and how the numbers are calculated. This withholding scheme, and computerized processing just isolates citizens from the tax code, and creates an ignorant "just tell me how big is my refund" mentality.

I'd like to see Congress forced to fill out their own tax returns, without an accountants help, on paper televised on CSPAN, it would be a good exercise.

WOW Joe, you pegged me to a tee. I have had an accountant do ours for years. When I try to review the final product my eyes cross and my brain freezes up and screams for mercy.

I had Diana Paty at Bookkeeping by the Numbers do mine for me this year (we've always done them ourselves, but it being the first year we've ever owned a business, we didn't want to mess up the much more complicated stuff) - it was a breeze and totally worth the inexpensive price!

Looking forward to getting my checks back! Whoo-hoo!
