WASHINGTON -- Under pressure from the advocacy group ColorofChange, Kraft Foods Inc. said Thursday night it would end its support for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the conservative lobbying group that has backed state "Stand Your Ground" gun laws.
ALEC supports conservative, business-friendly legislation, drafting model bills for lawmakers to introduce in state capitals around the country. The Florida shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, whose killer has avoided charges in part because of the state's Stand Your Ground law, has brought fresh attention to the law and role ALEC played in its passage.

WASHINGTON -- Succumbing to pressure from public interest groups, Coca Cola and Pepsico have severed their ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), an ultra-conservative lobby group that has pushed so-called Stand Your Ground gun legislation and voter-identification bills through state legislatures across the country.

So, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Kraft have had enough. In other articles the companies have made it clear that it's not only the "Stand Your Ground" laws, but the assault on voter-rights and voter-suppression that is starting to blow-back on them.
Finally, the rock is being lifted and when the light comes in, they scurry... Poor Koch Brothers...
Super PAC Money Stalled Despite Obama Greenlight [/b]
After Bill Burton failed to win the job of White House press secretary last year, he took a position nobody else wanted—helping lead a super PAC to help re-elect the president.
At the time, President Barack Obama was openly hostile to super PAC fundraising for giving rich donors more influence. Now, Mr. Obama and senior advisers who passed over Mr. Burton are reliant on the 34-year-old Buffalo, N.Y., native to help them stay employed a second term.
So far, they have cause for worry. Mr. Burton’s super PAC, Priorities USA Action, and a companion nonprofit group was at the end of February about one-tenth of the way toward its goal of raising $100 million, struggling with inexperience and missteps against more successful super PACs supporting Republican candidates.[i/]

Republican Committee Makes Big Turnaround on Fund-Raising [/b]
Once teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and irrelevance, the Republican National Committee has raised more than $110 million over the past 15 months and retired more than half its debt, accumulating large cash reserves that could give Mitt Romney a critical boost later this spring as he intensifies his campaign against President Obama.
With the divisive and drawn-out Republican primary season moving toward a close, the committee reported more money in the bank at the start of last month than the Democratic National Committee, which raised about $137 million during the same period but also spent far more.[/i]

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Withdraws Support From ALEC
Following Kraft, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and Intuit, another influential sponsor of ALEC has withdrawn its support from the right-wing corporate front group. Roll Call reports:
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation today became the latest backer to withdraw financial support for the American Legislative Exchange Council.
A foundation spokesman told Roll Call that it does not plan to make future grants to the conservative nonprofit, which has come under fire from progressive activists for its support of voter identification laws and other contentious measures.
The Gates Foundation said it supported ALEC on issues regarding “teacher effectiveness and school finance.” Lee Fang reports the funding could potentially have benefited “Microsoft as privatized charters adopt more technology in the classroom.”
