The first thing I thought of is the new $60,000,000 school in Fairplay that has already taken lives (killed people) and how when it was passed off on the public, they talked about how it will attract more families with kids to the area.

We all know that families with kids cost a communitiy money as it is hard for a family that asks for about $200,000 to educate EACH child they bring to return such an investment to the community. Children rarely stay in Park County, esp fairplay, when they grow up there. I don't know ANYONE over 30 that went to school here locally. We generally decided to ignore this when we passed the school budget and the tax increase forever to get little to no return.

But now, when those families thinking of moving to park county, and google info about park county....this is one of the first things they will see........ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/1 ... ref=denver

This may cause them to google the department and of course as police deal with all the crap everywhere, there is stuff that the county would not wear on it's lapel.

Seems like these deputies have done far more damage than I could have thought, now that the incident is getting so much press. But then again, if it keeps people with kids from moving here, this lowers our taxes, so perhaps this is a good thing, now that no one actually got hurt. But then again, if I had seen 285bound before considering to move here - there is no way in HELL I would have come. I like 285bound, but I bet it has scared more people away from the community and sqaushed more house sales than the PCSO. They actually reinforce each other. (I am not talking about the attitudes, just the shear reporting of the goings on and the accounts of the local rulers.)

It's also kinda ironic, because police lock people up all the time for stuff that does not hurt anyone, but has an outside chance it could (see drug war and the movie minority report). If this was not the case, I would be defending these guys, but the new standard is to do anything you can to nail someone to the wall. There were 40 kids at the party, stats say that 2 of them will be in jail before 30 years of age. This is why kids resent US cops, they lock them in boxes at a rate of 1 in 20. This is why they hide in the woods, this is why they run when the cops show up. This is why the next kid that leaks the party location will get a beat down.

A little blot on the county for sure, but you have to think lack of jobs is a bigger decision about people moving here than errant deputies or nice new schools.

A few years ago I was in Bend, Oregon, a community that was revitalized by silicon valley people choosing to work where they were playing in the summer.

It might be better for the county to encourage similar ventures in Fairplay and the surrounding areas.

1. I do know people over 30 that live in the Fairplay area...some of them graduated from high school here.

2. I think part of the reason for the small population and the people that leave is also due to the remoteness of Fairplay and the south end of ParkCo...it is just too far from humanity. And the weather can be very harsh.

3. My decision to move to Fairplay was not based on anything to do with the government...it was a place to go at a time I needed it. And I learned growing up in a town smaller than Fairplay (Kiowa, Colorado) to make the best of what the town/area gives you.

4. I do not pay a whole lot of attention to the goings on in the government...if it doesn't directly affect me...by directly I mean someone coming to my door and taking money away from me or telling me I can't do whatever it is I'm doing...it doesn't faze me. Also, I figure if it is something I can change, I will try...if it is something I am unable to change, then just shut up and deal with it. This helps to keep my blood pressure down.

5. The school system in Fairplay is OK...glad I don't have to deal with them anymore. They did need a new building as the ones they were using were not of the best quality for our kids.

I am really surprised that Sonnenberg survived this long considering he could not testify under oath, in court, stemming from at least 2 incidents in which he perjured himself.
