Interesting effect. Hard to believe its that significant, at least over a local area anyway. We need more coal! :) LOL

New research finds that wind farms actually warm up the surface of the land underneath them during the night, a phenomena that could put a damper on efforts to expand wind energy as a green energy solution.

Researchers used satellite data from 2003 to 2011 to examine surface temperatures across as wide swath of west Texas, which has built four of the world's largest wind farms. The data showed a direct correlation between night-time temperatures increases of 0.72 degrees C (1.3 degrees F) and the placement of the farms.

Are these the same researchers who support global warming?

Or could the higher temps be the result of changing the surface of the ground they are watching? Concrete pads and asphalt retain heat better than dirt. There has to be some sort of infrastructure to convey the power as it is generated and then there is the heat generated by the turbine in each windmill.

I imagine a solar panel farm would have similar consequences...

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

It's local only, and not that significant in the grand scheme of things. Plus, they aren't really warming the air, just moving warmer air back down to the surface that normally would've risen.

Don't believe the headlines. Wind farms do not cause 'global' warming.

Wind farms affect local nighttime temperatures, not global warming

Too bad it can't be used in some way to grow crops, w/o windmills destroying them.

Shouldn't we be demanding the government do an intensive study on the effects of warmer ground temps on under and overground critters? Isn't that what civilized people do?

We should CritiKalbiLL. We need to waste for money and then declare it is global warming. That should fix everything.

Spin it!
Wind farms have made Texas winters milder. Sending warm air back to the earth, creating microclimates of warmth to benefit local flora and fauna.

Wind farms have been a godsend to predators as damaged and dead birds drop to the ground like manna from heaven.
