Yes... they expected 20 thousand...

"But the event fell short of the 20,000 supporters the campaign had forecast as organizers moved people from seats to the arena floor in front of the dais to project fullness to television audiences. Obama volunteers had worked feverishly over the last week to gin up a crowd, making multiple calls to residents believed to be supportive of the president."

Read the facts and decide for yourself.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Saturday was supposed to be President Barack Obama’s day, dominated by headlines of successful campaign holding its first rally. Instead, reports prominently included references to thousands of empty seats at the president’s first rally here — just as the Romney campaign wanted it.

At The Ohio State University, over 5,000 seats in the 20,000-person venue went unfilled on the upper seating deck and behind the press cameras —a sharp contrast to Obama’s events in 2008, and even a 2010 event with then-Gov. Ted Strickland which drew 35,000.

ABC News had reported Saturday morning that the campaign expected “overflow” crowds at each event, crowds which never did materialize.

The New York Times quoted Obama senior adviser David Plouffe, not about the president’s remarks, but about the crowd size — with reporter Mark Landler comparing the rallies to “a concert by an aging rock star.”

Reporters had some help in noticing the empty seats. Romney spokespeople made it into both events, waiting in line like everyone else. They worked their way close to the press risers, ready to provide rapid response to Obama’s speech.

Kudos to the campaign for not artificially filling the arena. !4,000 people is not that bad and far more than Romney's goon squad would lead people to believe. I can't believe they're infiltrating Obama events to try and sway the press. Oh wait, yes I can.

The Obama campaign told TPM the crowd at Virginia Commonwealth University here Saturday (Obama’s second stop of the day) numbered 8,000, a capacity crowd for VCU’s basketball arena. Republicans noted empty seats at Obama’s first stop on the campus of Ohio State University, but the Obama campaign trumpeted the 14,000 it says it packed into the 18,000-person OSU arena.

By contrast, Romney crowds are still usually measured in the hundreds.

Yes... it appears that the GOP has finally caught on about using the media and social media (Twitter etc.). And we have all that to thank the Democrats for. Obama was an expert at this kind of tactics in the 2008 election cycle... and the GOP had to play catch up... but they are doing fine now... as this little "infiltration" has shown.

For the Democrats... it's going to be a bumpy ride.

The big plus of Obama campaigning all the time? First Axrlrod must realize he needs both the money and face time For Barack to win. And while on the road he isn't screwing up things.
