Justice Dept. accuses Sheriff Arpaio of racial profiling

Hey Joe...

The Justice Department, which first targeted Sheriff Joe Arpaio four years ago in his suspected mishandling of illegal immigrants arrested in the Phoenix area, filed a civil lawsuit in federal court Thursday accusing the sheriff and his office using “unconstitutional and unlawful actions” in their handling of Hispanics.

• Discriminatory and otherwise unconstitutional law enforcement actions against Latinos who are frequently stopped, detained and arrested on the basis of race, color or national origin;

• Discriminatory jail practices against Latino inmates with limited English skills;

• Illegal retaliation against their perceived critics, subjecting them to baseless criminal actions, unfounded civil lawsuits or meritless administrative actions.

A “notice of intent to file civil action” came Wednesday from Assistant U.S. Attorney General Thomas E. Perez in a letter.

Cool...feels good to find common ground and agree on something.

Ever notice in Wayne's movies it was always accepted that in the event of physical altercations, Wayne wouldn't pull his gun in self defense until the other guy went for his?...times change, I guess...sorry to tangent off topic.

Wow.
Try "The Searchers", probably Wayne's most complex role, playing a ex-Confederate soldier trying to rescue his niece from the Commanche.

Back on topic, it always surprised me that he gets re-elected year after year. Think someone else could win against this huckster.

I'm not going to try anything. I don't like westerns or any films that deals with cowboys. early American history films, fine... civil war movies... fine... other than that, very little of that macho-go-west-young-man-give-me-a-whiskey-draw-partner-high-noon genre interests me. Correction... I do love "Blazing Saddles."

Searchers is a little different because it actually attacks the traditional cowboy code. Wayne's character spends a decade trying to rescue his niece but when he finally does and realizes she has had sex with the Commanche, he no longer cares about her. John Wayne is more of a villain and bully than a hero here.

I don't like movies with men on horses.... simple as that Fred... I don't care if Wayne had sex with his niece.
