Religion compels me to be against discrimination of any kind

My religion has, compels me--and I love it for it--to be against discrimination of any kind in our country

CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that her Catholic faith "compels" her to "be against discrimination of any kind" and thus for same-sex marriage.

A reporter asked Pelosi: “Many of the people that are opposed to gay marriage cite their religion as the reason why they're opposed. You're a Catholic that supports gay marriage. Do you believe that religion and the idea that you can support gay marriage can be separated? And how do you grapple with the idea that you support gay marriage as a Catholic?”

Pelosi responded: "My religion has, compels me--and I love it for it--to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider this a form of discrimination. I think it’s unconstitutional on top of that. "

Nancy girl... your religion doesn't compel you in the least... the Catechism of the Catholic Church says that homosexual acts are "contrary to the natural law" and can never be approved and that marriage is the sacramental union of a man and a woman. So drop the "compel" routine, it's as phony as your botox treatments. Your personal ideology compels you, not your religion. And you need to go back and actually read the bible again you ignorant cretin. And keep your religion out of politics... it's stinks when the right does it and it stinks when you do it.

You're dead on the money with this one. Religion doesn't belong in politics.

Am I against gay marriage? Yep. I'd never marry another man.
Am I against other people's right to choose to enter into a gay marriage? Nope, let 'em marry and divorce like everyone else.

Live and let live. Pelosi blew that question bad. The correct answer would be "Despite my personal religion, I understand and accept that there are differing beliefs that need to be represented in our laws."

That way she doesn't piss off the pope :)

Not surprising. Pelosi is like Biden spouting stuff w/o thinking.

Nice how she compartmentalizes her religion and accepts only what works for her.

Full disclosure on my part... I am totally for legal same-sex marriage. So is my domestic partner girlfriend, my partner-step-kids and most of the people I hang with (of course, I hang with arty industry types so that may not be a good snapshot of the general public)

Nancy is confused again, her secular humanism religion might be against discrimination of most kinds, but Catholics revel in it. Against homosexuals, Protestants, Jews, etc.

Pelosi and other politicians who pretend to have certain religious beliefs really make me laugh. It's all about appearances.... they pick and choose which parts of their religion they will follow and make up their own interpretations. They should just drop the charade and come clean...I'd respect them much more. Not sure why so few in politics are afraid to say they are Athiests...I know, it's a vote killer.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

If I ran for an office... I wouldn't be afraid to let anyone know that I am an atheist... but you're right, it would be a vote killer.

Roman Catholic here as well Fred, but I'm wondering where you get that Catholics discriminate against anyone. The doors of our houses of worship are closed to no one, our charity is not reserved for those of our faith alone - where do you get that Catholics 'revel' in discrimination? Homosexuals are not denied acceptance into the congregation; they are not denied the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Holy Orders or to receive Last Rights; they are not forbidden to take solemn or simple vows to become a nun, sister, monk or friar.

Being a homosexual is not frowned on by the Catholic Church whatsoever - it is participation in homosexual acts that is viewed as sinful, as are all acts of fornication regardless of what one's sexual orientation happens to be. Yes, the sacrament of Matrimony may not be received by two people of the same sex, that is not permitted according to Catholic Canon Law.
