No kidding... North Carolina passed a ban on same-sex marriage this past Tuesday and 2/3 of the black voters voted in favor of the ban.
The bigots win: North Carolina passes Amendment One
Sadly, as predicted, voters in North Carolina passed Amendment One, the law that bans already-banned same-sex marriage and tacks on a gratuitous "and no civil unions, either." Way to go, North Carolina. You must be so proud.
It is, even by Southern standards, a remarkably mean-spirited initiative that not only prevents committed same-sex couples from getting married but that may outlaw domestic partnerships and take away a host of rights from unmarried couples (those issues will be hashed out in court for years to come).
