Democrats who already were queasy about the site of their national convention could be excused after Tuesday's election in North Carolina if they asked, "Tell me again just why we're going to Charlotte this year?" In fact, many Democrats privately are asking exactly that after the state's voters overwhelmingly approved a measure outlawing not just same-sex marriage -- which already was illegal in North Carolina -- but also any form of civil unions. Almost immediately after the vote, more than 20,000 people signed a "move the convention" petition being pushed by a New York group called Gay Marriage USA. And Twitter accounts lit up with hundreds of angry tweets demanding the party pull out of Charlotte.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Too late to move it but I wouldn't mind seeing dampened enthusiasm and possibly many people choosing to stay home.

From what the article has to say about Democrats in North Carolina there won't be many locals attending the convention. With the economy like it is I wonder how many of the Emperors faithful can afford to travel to attend. Who am I fooling, the truly faithful will rip the last crust of bread out of their kids mouths to get Barry back in office for a second term.

Barry is buddies with lots of 1%ers, no shortage there.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Move the Democratic Convention From Charlotte? Not Likely

In addition to the financial losses incurred by the convention committee and the Democratic party, the city of Charlotte would be dealt a big financial blow if the convention were moved, as the event will likely have a huge, positive, economic impact on the city. In 2008 the Democratic National Convention brought an estimated economic benefit of $226 million to the Denver area, according to a report released by then Denver Mayor, now Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper.

Furthermore, a majority of voters in Mecklenburg County, where Charlotte is located, voted against the ban on same-sex marriage.

About 54 percent of the vote in Mecklenburg was against Amendment One, while about 46 percent of the voting population supported it, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
