IRS tax loophole for illegals

Looks like this one is causing lots of debate.

"Due to a loophole in the tax code, the IRS is shoveling out billions on American tax dollars to those who are here illegally," said Rep. Johnson.

IRS tax code currently allows illegal immigrants to claim the fully-refundable tax credits as long as the children listed as dependents live in the United States and with the tax filer for at least six months of the year. Eyewitness News showed many undocumented workers are cheating the system by instead claiming nieces and nephews who live in other countries. The IRS issues them tax credits anyway because the agency does little to verify ITIN documentation.

All I need is the forms to become illegal so I can get all the same benny's.

I know several illegals who have this down to a fine science - getting thousands of dollars from the gubment and not paying a dime. Why should they go home when they have the best set up going. And so what if they eventually get caught, they will be given a free ride home.

The problem is that we, the American public, are collectively to blame because we continue to elect the asshats that propose and pass laws like these.

Forget about illegals getting this credit. Why on earth would the gov't pay $1000/child credit anyway? And refundable type credit? So just have 10 kids and get $10K from Uncle Sam regardless of what taxes you owe or not. Stupid. Yeah I get it, raising kids is not cheap, neither is a $4Trillion gov't.

TIme to reform the whole income tax code and get rid of all this nonsense.

Fairness will only be achieved with simplicity and everyone needs to chip in.

Not optimistic that it will stop either for those using it illegally rather than legally.

Have you not seen the advertisements on TV that played just before tax time? Seems that a lot of folks got more money back than they ever paid into the IRS. This has been going on for years.

It buys votes.

Votes for who? The IRS? H&R Block?

I have seen both the Left & Right push increased tax credits for those with children. The Christian Conservative right wants to encourage more women to stay home and have families. And Dems want to help out working class families.
