To the extent that is true, I completely agree. The tp is not homogeneous, it has many chapters.

I know it wasn't aimed at me, but that's never stopped any of us from commenting anyway, right?

I was all for the tea party when it started out with the whole free market, smaller government emphasis. It was an econimic stand.

Then the social conservatives got in there and mucked up the message the same way the social liberals screwed up OWS.

Think about it. If the tea party had stuck with "Less government in big business" and OWS had stuck with "Less Big Business in government" there would be considerable room for compromise. Instead, knuckleheads started bringing in social issues that stand for no compromise, but only serve to create a chasm between warring factions.

The tea party is a classic example of "give them an inch and they will take a mile". They went from fiscally conservative, looking to rein in spending and lower our indebtedness to ultra social conservatives, creating litmus tests for candidates that included anti gay marriage, abortion, and contraception among others. Look at how Romney has had to change his more mainstream/moderate views to court the far right wing of the GOP.

I am always suspicious of groups who start with one fairly reasonable message then add more and more restrictive and controversial ideologies as they gain a little power. I am extremely concerned where this tea party/ultra conservative movement will take is if they continue to take over the GOP.

Where are you getting this idea that the Tea Party as a whole is so interested in social issues? That's like saying most of the OWrs are just trying to bring down capitalism. If Tea Partiers had been causing riots, trashing public areas, and costing cities millions, would you be silent or would you be even more critical of the entire movement like you are now?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I haven't seen the tea party really interested in social issues at all. They seem to be all fiscal from what I see. Of course, you will have individuals who are on certain social sides, but not "platform".

I'd rather we leave all the social stuff on the side, and only focus on fiscal. Won't matter whether you are pro/con abortions, gay marriage, etc if the US is driven off a cliff fiscally.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

Both groups (ows and tp) have become just another constituency of the power parties. They both have marginal influence. The 2 dominate parties know how to diffuse the "fringe". Money talks and these 2 grass roots organizations have none.
