Google some recent history, we were headed to a major depression and slipped by with a major recession.
I love the short memories.
YES I AM WAY BETTER OFF.I think Obama did less than he should have and wasted the stimulus money but we avoided a major disaster for a less major one if we kept the old course.

Mostly out of Iraq, getting out of Afghanistan. I doubt less $ but hopefully less American deaths.Democracy Works wrote:

That's a start on answering my question. But which of his policies effected your "better off-ness" and how (not asking for personal information, but you should be able to give us a macro level explanation).

The dread has been lifted for me. I don't agree with a lot of Obama's policies but it is about the alternatives being way worse. I live off dividend and cap gains, both have improved for me in the last 3 years. Market up, unemployment down, Too slow but more of the old Republican crap would be worse.
IMHO of course.

October 2008 stock crash hurt a lot financially. Real estate also , The wars spent billions that were unnecessary along with the tax cuts that were not needed . That helped create the huge debts that you are so concerned about.Democracy Works wrote:

How did pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan make you better off than four years ago. Maybe we are at cross-concepts here. I'm asking about your financial standard, your social life, the American dream sort of accomplishments. How has Obama's policies improved those areas? Or maybe they haven't. Maybe you haven't experienced any of the financial hardships, the loss of employment, foreclosures and so on. If you haven't, then you can't answer my question.

We were doing pretty well until wars and drug programs with no cost to the taxpayers.
I firmly believe that we pay for what we want the Gov. to do. You want war-pay you want drug bennies-pay you want SS at 65 -pay. easy for me to figure. You don't want it fine, you don't get it.

Interest rates still suck but my real estate and investments( dividends too) have improved. My point is "lesser of 2 evils" if we had continued the previous policy of give entitlements and spend big bucks on wars that have no end, I would be worse off. Tax for what we want and quit whining.Democracy Works wrote:

(why do I feel like I'm pulling teeth)
So... the the stock market tanking you financially? And you took some hits on real estate? And now that it's 2012, just about 4 years later, what policies of President Obama has helped you recover from the hits you took in the stock market and the real estate market?
