Popular Pakistani singer Ghazala Javed and her father were reportedly shot to death as they left a beauty parlor in northwest Pakistan.
The Times of India reports that unidentified men fired indiscriminately at Javed and her father, Mohammad Javed, as they left the beauty parlor on Monday in Dagbari Bazar, the singer’s relatives told police.
The gunmen, who were riding motorcycles, escaped following the shooting. Police officials said they were trying to establish who was behind the crime, including Javed’s estranged husband or possible links to the Taliban, The News International reports.
Several singers and musicians in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province have been gunned down in recent years by the local Taliban, who have declared music "un-Islamic,” the newspaper reports. Several musicians have fled northwest Pakistan after receiving threats from the militants.
I think you'll find that most of her fans are (were) Muslims.
Her father, given his name, was obviously Muslim.
DAWN ---- Pakistan's national newspaper, reports that police consider this a likely internal (family) conflict.
In any event - in the eyes of Pakistanis - her death is tragic.
It's a shame that US media insists on politicizing and labeling the crime (inaccurately).
She was either killed by a jealous lover (like Dorothy Stratten) ---- or killed by a gang of thugs (Haing S. Ngor or Tupac).
Either way - I think it's mis-informed, and in-fact, deceptive to say this incident is about religion.
The Taliban is not a group of holy men --- it's a group of thugs.
The mobsters of the 20s and 30s were mostly Italian (and Catholic). Why don't we portray their violence as driven by the Catholic faith?
The thugs of Taliban aren't all that different from the thugs of the mafia.
No - it's not their culture --- and yeah - we can blame the thugs that did it.

The Taliban were/are strict followers of Sharia Law, a religious law, and seek to impose that belief on others. The mafia had no religious based motivation for their crimes, just greed. They never whacked people because they didn't go to mass.
The Taliban are thugs, but they use religion as to justify their violence. I hope BB is right and it is just a domestic violence instead of religious violence.
Like BB said, many followers of Islam have no issues with music or dancing, etc.
