Pointing out the hypocrisy, can we all concede that and talk about fixing what ails us for a change of pace?

That would be cool JMC, but what ails us is the morons we have running the country, past and present. So if we discuss the problems, we know they can only be fixed by the government... either by them doing more, or better yet, by them doing less imo.
Nothing ever gets discussed here without someone yelling hypocrisy. If Obama does something that's obviously suspicious or wrong, then someone deflects and says "but but what about what Bush did?".
Nobody can discuss the actual topic without someone else diverting it into some kind of "your side is worse" bullcrap.

But I'm game, what's your plan?

There's two lines of thought as to what ails us jmc. One line of thought is that there is too much power usurped and held at the federal level, the other is that there needs to be more power taken from the citizens of the States and their governments and deposited in the lap of the federal government. The only thing that has changed in the last 230+ years are the names of the people making the arguments. The fix, therefore, also has two lines of thought - one to reclaim the powers usurped, the other to usurp yet more power by hook or by crook.

That pretty much sums it up, don't you think?

For me, fixing what ails us lies in turning the current tax appropriations on their head and having the level of government closest and most accountable directly to us receive the lion's share of our taxes and the level of government furthest from and least accountable directly to us receive the smallest portion. I do think that local, State and federal governments are all necessary to accomplish the goals laid out in our Constitution, I just happen to also believe that the best way to have a government that the majority of people all across the union are pleased with is to allow them the ability to govern themselves to the greatest possible extent rather than to seek to have them governed to the greatest possible extent. I entertain not a single doubt that the people of Park County, Jefferson County, Denver County or Weld County are much more attuned to the needs of their own neighbors and how best to help the ones who are struggling than Representatives and Senators from the other 49 States could ever hope to be. We, by which I mean the people of Park County, are much more likely to think they have a government which will be "most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness" if they can easily and regularly alter it in a manner they think most likely to have that result. I am not a citizen of the United State of America, I am a citizen of one of the several States that make up the United States of America. I am not responsible for ensuring that the people of foreign States receive education, food, clothing, shelter or any other necessity of living. Whether that foreign State government in which they are citizens is that of Mexico or New Mexico doesn't change that basic reality, neither of them are the government of the State in which I am a citizen.

Those are my thoughts - would you care to offer some of your own on how to fix what ails us?

 Are our politicians morons? Or are we morons for electing them?

Like you I am more trusting in the market to do the right things, but our opponents here don't trust business and think goverment is the best way to rein in corporations.
Very hard to reach a amiable agreement.

We have the right to choose the lesser of two evils, a guaranteed loser, or not vote at all. The only way this country ever gets back on track is when it hits bottom and enough people wake up. It will take another 4 years for that to happen this time imo.

I meant this thread to influence other threads with some reasonableness, i was gone and after 20 minutes, nothing is going to change. So let the insults and hypocrisy rule.
PS as usual you are civil and smart even though we have completely different perspectives, keep trying to stay above the fray

Yep... one side or the other other insults and displays hypocrisy... and the other side will call it out. Funny how that works. Certainly better than keeping silent. If you don't condemn it... you condone it (paraphrase of Lady Jazzer/Democracy4Sale)... or would yo prefer "can't we all get along?" I don't.

My problem is that is is boring, I know what every poster will say, nothing interesting or new. I could steal any posters identity and nobody would know the difference.
I would just enjoy a little creativity a?nd originality occasionally. Too much too ask
