K-12 education is a virtual government monopoly--and monopolies don't improve.

Since progressives want government to run health care, let's look at what government management did to K-12 education. While most every other service in life has gotten better and cheaper, American education remains stagnant.

Spending has tripled! Why no improvement? Because K-12 education is a virtual government monopoly -- and monopolies don't improve.

Our public education system is a great model for how our public health care system will work... more and more money pumped in with declining results. By the time we're forced into a single payer system, we'll already be prepped for the waiting and more limited services. Yaaaa!

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

With all the cuts in teacher's pay, where is that $$$ going.
Yes, I am married to a teacher and have several in my immediate and extended family. My wife took a cut last year and had wage freezes the prior 2 with less than cost of living increase the 3 before that.

Look up... administrators, union bosses, school districts... the teacher is the first to suffer and the last to see a pay increase. Where did you think all that stimulus money went? And now local and state governments are treading water trying to make ends meet. The stimulus funds didn't fix squat.... just prolonged the eventual problem. But it felt good while it lasted... didn't it?

Education needs competition. The voucher system would force changes that an ossified system will not make.

Photo-s, what are you hearing from your family in Wi. ? I heard Walker today, he says things are improving. No teacher layoffs, budget surplus, etc.

In Wisconsin wages are down 2.4%. Walker is a liar and a thief.

I think the quality of education is directly proportional to the effort parents put into instilling the drive to learn into their children and providing support.

If the children have that drive, more money can help too. If they don't, in general you are just wasting your time throwing out more money. If the kids don't care, and their parents don't either, it's probably a waste of money. The parents spend much more time with them than the schools do anyway.

Really? Kids get on the buses at 6 AM and get home at 4 or 5. Go figure.
My children were sent to private schools and academies. The staff was motivated and highly qualified. Parents should consider a private education before buying that new house or the latest new car because the public system is busted and the teachers are the reason.
