If a Scientologist ran for President

I was just asking because all of the Tom Cruise stuff in the news made me think about it. I don't equate Scientology with Mormonism.

I do think a person's choice of a moral belief system is core to their decision making choices. To me, all religions are a way to determine a person's choices in life and those form their opinions in public policies. That goes for professional and personal affiliations as well.

Just as people judge Obama as to whether he's a Christian or a Muslim, which seems to make a difference to people, I think a candidate's choice of religion is important.

So Rick, since Obama doesn't engage in human or animal sacrifice, does that mean you don't care if Obama is a Muslim?

And Bob, you don't get to tell me what I really mean. But keep snarking away.

What about a candidate who has been sucked in by a racist church?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I don't care what religion the president is. I do care that he sat in the pews of a racist church for 20 years though. I believe there where few if any white people ever in that church and I believe that the words we've heard from the good Reverend Wright where just a small example of what he has said to his congregation for many many years. Of course one could say that Obama knew none of this, he was conveniently absent when anti-white words were spoken. And then only after the media firestorm (very limited media btw) did he renounce his membership.

If you believe President Obama was not close to Wright and knew nothing of his racist ideology, then please explain your reasoning. I'm not looking for a fight here, but you brought up the subject and I believe it was a sneaky way to turn it on Romney.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

You don't care or you do? Your responses seem to indicate both.

Scientology and LDS: both far-fetched stories spread by white guys.

Yeah, it would matter to me. It shows a person who can get sucked in by the most improbable story. I wouldn't want that kind of guy in the White House.

And what about a Christian candidate (like President Obama)? You have all that improbable stuff like raising from the dead, multiplying fishes and matzoh, healing people with touch... and I haven't even got to the "miracles" in the Hebrew scriptures yet (The Old Testament). You want that sort of guy in the White House, who has gotten sucked into all that Christian myth?

I don't like Scientology but like above, any religion is easy to ridicule if you want to. The people eat their God's body and drink his blood? Horrifying, must be a satanic cult!

Answer the question? I would be willing to vote a Scientologist if I had a long voting record of him in office and public life. (And liked his ideas.)
President isn't a dictator.

Can you imagine how the Christian right would react if this came to pass? Revelation, the Anti-Christ, etc.

"What if's" are just a method of raking up dissention between people over things that haven't happened. It takes an evil heart to do this. Perhaps a liberal.

There's a difference between a group of people writing chapters in The Bible and some guy saying he was visited by an angel who gave him golden plates but he lost them and dictated his book out of a hat (twice in two different versions)... or a science fiction writer who comes up with a story about a mysterious group of advanced beings on another planet... as a successor to a self-help program.
