US sets record temperatures

The last 12 months are the warmest in recorded history for the mainland US. The last 6 months have also set a record for high temperatures as well. Parts of California and Arizonia are expected to hit 115 degrees today.

Coincidentally, atmospheric carbon dioxide readings are at their highest levels since the last catastrophic climate change era resulting in the Eocene-Oligocene extinction event.

And there were also record lows set in some communities. It happens.

And if you believe in human based global warming like I do, how would you solve it? Double the price of all energy in America? Ban all trade with countries that refuse to lower their energy consumption by 5% per decade? Sell carbon credits, so the rich people and countries can afford to waste fuel?

No. I believe there is considerable merit to setting up a market based cap and trade to provide incentives for reducing emissions based on marketplace principles. This approach was enormously successful in reducing sulfur dioxide emissions at a fraction of the costs that were foretold at the time. Combine this with incentives for non-carbon based energy. I would like to see technology that would increase carbon sinks to balance the emissions that are continuing to increase.

There is an interesting article on global warming's evil twin. The oceans, which act as a natural carbon sink, are being overloaded with carbon dioxide, causing acidification of the oceans. This is breaking down the coral reefs, depleting fisheries, and even confusing fish such as salmon who are unable to return to their spawning areas.

There are a number of other articles describing the evil twin.

Carbon credits may work, but I think it will be very hard to convince a world slipping into recession that you want to increase costs for producers & consumers. Especially if they think other countries are cheating or shown favortism.

For example Kyoto, expected the developed world to pay and make reductions in emissions while developing antions like China and India weren't.

The International Energy Agency has just released some data that green-minded fans of shale gas should appreciate. The organisation's latest figures show that America’s carbon-dioxide emissions from generating energy have fallen by 450m tonnes, more than in any other country over the past five years. The turnaround has been welcomed by many, and Fatih Birol, the IEA’s chief economist, ascribes much of the credit to a shift away from dirty coal towards cleaner gas, according to an article in the Financial Times.

Obama has been forcing Colorado and other states to replace coal with natural gas, but now Enviros are threatening this healthier alternative with fracking lawsuits. Quick, back to coal, open pit mines!

Coincidentally, this planet is experiencing the affects AR-1515's massive solar flares.

Sunspot group AR1515 is by no means the only active region on the sun today. Nor will it be the last this week, Young added. "There is a new active region that is starting to come into view on the lower half of the sun," Young said. "It should be completely on the Earth facing side of the solar disk in the next day."

Ask Europe, where carbon trading has become a $50 BILLION dollar industry with rampant fraud. It is a mess to put it mildly.

The European Union (EU) Emission Trading System (ETS) has been the victim of fraudulent traders in the past 18 months. This resulted in losses of approximately 5 billion euros for several national tax revenues. It is estimated that in some countries, up to 90% of the whole market volume was caused by fraudulent activities.

It is not just Enviros who are concerned but homeowners who depend on their local water supplies. My biggest concerns with fracking are the water use (1 - 5 million gallons per well) and disposal of the contaminated water.

Replied by Rick on topic US sets record temperatures
Too hot and it must be climate change/global warming... too cold, then it must just be a weather glitch or :can't hear .
