Due to the million of teens and young adults unemployed in the Obama economy, isn't it time to force the young into the military and civvie job programs like working at VA hospitals, elder care, cleaning infrastructure and getting valuable skills?
Gen. McCrystal just advocated bringing back the military draft so that all of America needs to know what war is like. Other euro nations like Germany offered lots of options for the young who didn't want to join the military and they often went into the health care field.
Seems like good timing considering that the baby boomers are getting older.

What the heck Fred, we have no money remember. Young people who are unemployed should be using this opportunity to go back to school, change majors, or just volunteer at something to pass the time.

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
Personally, I would be scrounging things at garage sales and off craigslist and selling them on ebay. A friend of mine did that once during tough times, he made so much money he turned it into a business. Still does it too!

I like the idea of compulsory service be it civil or military; the problem with most conscripts is that they are only in service for as long as they are obligated to be and they are not always what you might call dedicated and diligent about doing their jobs.
As the Gubment is positioned today, there isn't enough loose change to fund a larger DoD or new civilian Gubment job programs. And since the biggest tax increase in the history of the nation has been upheld by the SCOTUS businesses are rethinking their position on taking more employees. Barry done painted us in to a corner.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Is it cheaper to give them jobs and get some work done versus giving them subsidized loans and Pell Grants so they can hang out on campus smoking dope and drinking beer?
