The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
I think Putin and Russia would hate for Syria to fall into the hands of the Islamists. Chechyna was/is worse for them than 9/11 for us. Plus Russia is losing a lot of influence in the region to the Chinese.
