Letting others get away with violating basic human rights for political purposes is disgusting. And despite the title of this article, the previous administration did it too, and you can bet your ass the next one will as well unless there's some serious public outcry.
There are 2 million children who are trafficked every year, 300,000 alone in the U.S.; it's a 32 billion dollar industry and the fastest growing illegal trade, 2nd only to drugs. It will overtake even that at some point. Why? Because a drug that's bought and used is gone the second it's used, but a 6 year old girl can be used over and over and over and over and over and over...10-15 times a day until she's used up and no longer desirable and is tossed out on the streets to starve. Just imagine having to have sex you don't want (especially if your body isn't meant to handle that yet because you're only 4 years old) that many times A DAY, day after day after day. And they let this continue by not sanctioning these countries who are the most egregious. Makes me wanna puke on the letter I'll be writing to the White House.
Why is it okay to turn a blind eye to this widespread problem? Think it doesn't happen in this area? Wrong. Think your child can't be kidnapped and sold into slavery? Wrong. Is it okay for it to happen to children other than your own? You'd sell everything you owned if it was your son or daughter who was taken, wouldn't you? So why can't our elected officials make these f****** pay?
The failure of the White House to enforce threatened sanctions against countries that the State Department has accused of doing little to control human trafficking is “appalling,” with the Obama administration • much like the George W. Bush administration before it — using “every loophole possible” to issue waivers to avoid punishing the offending nations by cutting U.S. aid, according to elected officials, human rights activists and others.
Of the 23 countries cited by the State Department in a June 2011 report as having failed to meet minimum standards in fighting human trafficking, whose victims are usually women and children, President Obama granted full waivers in September to 13 and partial waivers to seven others, including Cuba, Iran, Myanmar and Venezuela. The waivers were granted on the grounds that it was in the “national interest” of the United States that the countries not lose their aid despite their poor records on human trafficking.
Rep. Christopher H. Smith, who wrote the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, which requires the State Department to annually rank each country’s efforts at controlling human trafficking and provides penalties for those that fail to meet minimum standards, said the lack of implementation is “appalling.”
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
There's so much more...working with JOY International has opened my eyes to how horrific it is.
Caution: Don't play these if there are children in the room.
