Georgia Girls' Lemonade Stand Reopened at Local Water Park After Police Shut Them Down
the girls will get their sweet taste of success on Sunday, when they'll have the opportunity not just to go to the Summer Waves, but to sell lemonade inside the park.
"I heard about the story from a local vendor," Jekyll Island's general manager Steve Sharpe told Foxnews.com. ""I'm a father of three and have been in the restaurant and concession business my whole life, so the story tugged at my heartstrings a little bit."
Sharpe invited the girls to spend the day, free of charge, at the water park, where they will be provided with their very own lemonade stand built by the Summer Waves maintenance staff.
If you didn't understand how economic activity is supressed by government regulations- here is an example of how it affects the economy that even a liberal should be able to understand.
It's a small affect- one city regulation and one lemonade stand- but consider the total affect on the whole economy of all the regulations, restrictions, taxes, fees and licenses- and the massive supression of overall economic activity- the effects are monstrous.
It's real- and it's a big reason why businesses are reluctant to expand during this anti-business climate. They are waiting for a more business friendly environment before they risk expanding and creating jobs.
Then there is the question of weather the government should be in the business of regulating what is in a cup of lemonade. "We don't know what's in it" said the cop who shut down the illegal lemonade stand. I challange the whole idea that a local government's function is to find out what is in a cup of lemonade.
But the citizens have allowed this local government authority to have this control- so they think it's their job. The only way to place these functions back in the hands of the people would be to remove regulation - and the funding that this local authority uses to enforce the regulations.
"We don't know what's in it"- said the cop. My answer to that is #1- it shouldn't be any of your business.
