Harry Reid Romney Tax Tipster 'Is A Credible Person,' New Source Tells CNN (VIDEO)
A second source, said to be "close to Senator [Harry] Reid," has told CNN's Dana Bash that Reid's original source for the claim that Mitt Romney "didn't pay any taxes for 10 years" exists, is a "Bain investor" and a "credible person." Dana Bash reported on this source, and the person's willingness to corroborate the allegation to which the Senate majority leader repeated on Thursday's airing of CNN's AC360.
As Bash told the show's host, Anderson Cooper:
I did speak to one source who is very close to Senator Reid who claims to also know who the Bain investor is that Reid spoke with, and insists that it is a credible person and this person if we knew the name we would understand they would have the authority and the ability to know about Romney's tax returns.
"Whether we'll find it out ever," Bash added, "who knows? They're doing it on purpose, so this is the discussion."
Indeed, in the days since the Huffington Post first reported on Reid's claim, Reid has done nothing to back down. The Romney camp on Thursday responded by insisting that Reid "put up or shut up." Reid, on the other hand, has made it clear that the burden of disproving his claim lies with Romney.
Looks like the house of cards is starting to crumble around Romney's tax-dodging history. I need a t-shirt that says, "My money went to Bermuda/Cayman Islands/Switzerland, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt..."
He can continue to dodge and withhold the tax returns, but this is not going to go away. Of course, the way to make it go away is to produce returns that would refute it...And the vehemence with which he is fighting it is a pretty clear indication of what's in them. He's obviously made the calculation that the damage that would be done by releasing them outweighs the cost of trying to keep them secret.
Mitt-the-Twit is not looking too good in the polls... He's lost the women's vote; the Hispanic vote; the LGBT vote; and the fact that he still blindly supports the totally discredited Ryan Plan, is costing him the vote of Seniors as well... But, hey, if he can win the neo-cons, values voters, gun-nuts, Bubbas, and far-right religious folks, he's got a shot...
Walter Jones On Mitt Romney's Tax Returns: 'I Don't Think This Will Go Away'
GOP Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) said Thursday that Mitt Romney's refusal to release more than two years of tax returns could hurt him in the presidential election.
"I don't think this will go away," Jones told The Hill. "And if we're still talking about this in September, he's in deep trouble."
Many Republicans have called on Romney to release more than two years of tax returns to make the issue go away, including his former rivals Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman. Conservative pundits Bill Kristol and George Will, as well as the editors of the National Review, have also called on Romney to release the returns.
He paid $3,009,766 in Federal income taxes in 2010. Further, while he did file an extension, he has already paid $3,226,623 for 2011. His effective tax rate was 15.4%, which is still greater than the effective rate of 97% of Americans. Even at 14%, Romney Pays a Higher Rate than 97% of His Fellow Americans. Here is his estimated return that was filed for 2011:
"Arguing with a liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how well you play chess, the pigeon just knocks over all the pieces, craps on the board, spews some unintelligible profanities, and struts around like he won"
I think that Reid was totally off base with this one and going so low as to state that he bets Romney's dad would be ashamed, is a new low.
Romney will release his taxes. No one is giving up on that request. he is just making it harder on himself. He should have done it months ago and then the story would have been over by the election. Now it will be close to the election and not much time to let it play out and be over with.

These things may have a bearing on Obama's ability to hold the office, whether or not Romney incurred a tax liability does not. As archer was so kind as to point out in her earlier efforts to defend the indefensible Reid, no allegation of tax evasion has been made, only that Romney wasn't required by the tax code to send any money to Washington.
If, however, you and Reid are alleging that Romney violated the tax laws and there should be an investigation and audit of the tax returns for the years some clown in the Senate is alleging that no taxes were paid, then request such from the IRS. I'm sure that Obama is very interested in having his name attached to such a request given his Chicago background and his penchant for having sealed records of others released while making sure his own records remain sealed.
