The Obama administration will formally begin granting some young undocumented immigrants legal status and work permits later this month under a controversial new policy first announced by President Obama in June.
The Department of Homeland Security today announced details of the application and approval process for the DREAM Act-like program, outlining specific eligibility requirements and a $465 fee. It will begin Aug. 15.
Illegal immigrants younger than 30 who came to the United States before age 16, have lived here for at least five years continuously, attend or have graduated from high school or college, and have no criminal convictions are eligible to submit requests for so-called deferred action (legalese for an official exemption from deportation).
The administration said documentation provided by each applicant will be reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis at one of four service centers run by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service. It’s unclear how long each review will take, but some immigrants are expected to receive temporary legal status before Election Day.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Allowing "qualified" illegals to remain in the US creates an immigration "bubble," effectively people who qualify and pony up the money are in immigration Purgatory. They are Illegal Aliens but have bought a magic pass that says they cannot be deported by Presidential decry.
Since they are not citizens can they draw from Welfare and Entitlements? Are they paying taxes or working under the table? When they get sick they can go to the ER and get treated even if they can't or won't pay for the services rendered and they aren't likely to have insurance. Can they be officially employed with out a Social Security Number and therefore be covered by Obamacare?
This policy sets the stage for amnesty but in reality it's just another empty campaign promise and a move by Barry to spin the election machine trying to inject more minority votes.

I disagree....it makes the unofficial policy official..... for years, under both Republicans and Democrats, we have focused on those illegal immigrants that are a threat to our society, we have neither the will nor the resources to go after the millions of illegals that have been here for decades and especially those who came here as kids and know no other home but the US. We are doing ourselves a favor if we allow them to contribute to society, rather than educating them and then not taking advantage of their talents...and their taxes. I believe that guest workers, those on student visas, etc already pay taxes on money they earn here......why not illegal aliens that we no longer target for immediate deportation?
No answer to my question above......where is the source for these illegal aliens becoming Americans for a fee of $465? Or was that just one more lie by a conservative....they are getting more and more frequent as we get closer to the election. What are you all so afraid of? that Romney will lose? OK, you have good reason to worry.
Yeah it would be terrible if illegal immigrants younger than 30 who came to the United States before age 16, have lived here for at least five years continuously, attend or have graduated from high school or college, and have no criminal convictions got out of jail free. Oh wait, they have no criminal convictions.

What about the people who are crossing the border today? Should be keep paying for welfare, schools, healthcare for future illegal immigrants too?
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
