What If Everyone’s Wrong?

What if what everyone knows about presidential elections is wrong?

Everyone knows vice presidential candidates don’t matter. Except that on August 11, the day Paul Ryan was announced, Mitt Romney trailed by almost 5 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics average of polls. Two weeks later Romney had pulled to within 1 point—his strongest rally of the general election season.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

I believe every candidate for president has gotten a bump in the polls with their VP pick, but by election time the choice made little difference. It seems to me that the bump was less for Ryan than other VP choices for previous candidates.

My personal opinion is Ryan would probably poll higher than Rmoney and many Repubs think the ticket should be flipped.

I would tend to agree. We need people with conviction to make the hard decisions to actually do something, instead of kicking the can down the road to the next generation. Ryan is like that. Nobody knows until they are actually in office, but maybe if the reps win this time we will actually make some structural changes to fix some of these problems today, and save the next generation.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!
