Among the many issues that Romney failed to bring forth in his speech, and from what I have seen reported, is military policy, Afghanistan, and our troops in combat and elsewhere. I don't believe the RNC even mentioned the military and just swept our troops under the rug. Oh wait, Clint brought it up, and the Republican platform mentioned reinstituting Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Nothing else, obviously the Republicans don't feel the issue of our military or their health when they return is nearly as important as giving more tax cuts to the wealthy.
How could a presidential candidate, in his biggest speech, talk about tax policy but not even give a shout out to our troops in combat?
"Remember to always be yourself. Unless you can be batman. Then always be batman." Unknown
So not only does Romney disrespect the military in his acceptance speech by not saluting the military (first time in 60 years) or even mentioning the troops dying in Afghanistan, or hoping for their safe return, the Romney/Ryan budget seeks to cut VA care for 1.3 MILLION veterans and cut $6 billion from veterans health care, so that they can give even bigger tax cuts to the wealthy.
On the other hand, President Obama today signed an executive order directing even more resources to improve mental health services for veterans, particularly those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Additionally, the president is heading to Fort Bliss, TX to meet with the troops there.

I will give the President and the 1st Lady credit, they both have worked to help the veterans. Seems like it took a jump start to get them going, but yes they have done things on a positive note for us.
on that note wrote: They have all kinds of researchers that have figured out and shared with Romney and the republicans that most voters are not as concerned with this. We could bring up long lists of things - how we imprison everyone or make everything illegal, many segments of the govt ignoring the constitution, kids graduating high school not being able to fill out their own tax returns. The truth is the same for most of these things, most people care about other stuff WAY more.
This is like people thinking the news is there to inform them when it is there to sell commercials, denying it won't change it. You think of the election as a tool to allow us to have good government, when the election is really a way to convince you that you have had your say while accomplishing the real goal of getting a rich guy something that it take just slightly more than money to buy. The convention is just marketing and they can't waste the time on stuff that won't produce a return. It is just like a business.
Just look at the topics in 285bound. How many of them talk about the war we have been in for over 10 years? We are just short of the 4000 day mark - BTW only about one month left. How many of them are about voter ID laws?
I think to put it bluntly, people just don't care, they consider most that are in the military poor and stupid. I am not saying this myself, I am saying this is what I feel from others. By the way, most people only pretend to care about the poor and stupid and only when convenient. Thus, put on a Hollywood actor that used to use guns in movies, even if he no longer can speak effectively in public...that gets you votes.
You are correct on how some view those of us that served and are serving. What the American people that have never been in the military do not understand, only cause they have never made a attempt is, the so called poor and stupid, could not even get in the military. Todays military you have to have smarts and a lot of common sense, especially to operate the high tech equipment. Its not all, heres a rifle go shoot it. I have actually had those that thought they were all that, and could not even score high enough on the ASVAB test to get in.
As for talking about it, most Vets I know, we do talk about it, but to our own group. Mostly it is about how we can help those that are returning so they do not get the same treatment that the Vietnam Vets got. We do not talk to the general public about it. My personal feelings are, we should up and pull out, let NATO deal with it. Karzai is only in power because of us. Lets see how he does when we leave.
Afghanistan has never and will never be a conquered nation. It is a nation that seems like it has always been in a conflict.
I also believe that a lot of folks believe that if they do not talk about it it will just go away. Not going to happen.
