Background that I learned that I did not realize:
Most citizens don't watch cable and obsess with the convention coverage. They wait and get the hour's worth of coverage delivered by the network news channels. They cover the 10-11 hour slot each night. So the convention planners make sure to get the events lined up to deliver the strongest message out to the largest audience in that time slot.
In the final night of the RNC, the 10-11 hour WAS scheduled to be
►Marco Rubio intro of Romney
►10 minute Romney introduction video
►Romney
The intro video has historically been directly before the candidate comes on - kind of gets everyone feeling good about who is about to speak.
at the last minute, the schedule was rearranged to fit in a surprise mystery guest, and we all know who that was now.
So now the schedule shifted to this:
►9:50-10:00 Romney video
►10 Mystery guest Clint Eastwood
►Rubio
►Romney
so that means that the campaign sacrificed the intro video to the national audience by moving it BEFORE the networks cut in to allow 10 minutes for Eastwood.
The 10 minute Romney video was pretty good and they missed the chance to show it.
